But Unreal I thought we would be seeing 4k in homes within 10 years?

I saw some report about these new tv's I think they are called: "Hologram Tv"
they show video that is shown in the air like 3D. and you can walk around it and see the pic from all side's!

I would guess they want it too show HD Video before they start selling.

I would hope Blu-Ray's can play on those. and we will not need to upgrade to Video's on Crystal's (like the ones Superman uses to view his home videos on)

Blu-Ray grows too the rip old age of 1 millon years old!

In terms of it's big hurrah?
I'd say between now and 2015.
In terms of overlapping with and slowly losing to the increasingly powerful (by then) download, 2020.
It will probably hang on in some form or another till around 2025-2030, probably just in rewriteable media or something. Not movies.

Default Blu-ray l The Last & Longest in Physical Media

Hello

I think that both Blu-ray and Downloads will both be around indefinitely; that they will co-exist together, benefiting those that prefer each for their respective conveniences and attributes.

Personally, I prefer physical media for so many reasons, but have nothing against those that prefer downloads.

Additionally, I really do think that the unreal l 1080P poster is fantastic; I wish I had the time to go into as much detail here as well, but is is very late and I simply cannot.

Thank You

It actually hasn't maxed out resolution for home media since you can actually purchase today 4Kx2K ("2000P" in OW) displays today. They are probably quite expensive and the only one I know of is huge ... it was featured on TV not too long ago on CNN or something.

Even after holo takes over, BD, I predict, will subsist (just as DVD subsists today and just as VHS continued for a good while). I think holo and BD will co-exist for at least a decade. So overall lifespan should be 25-45 years. Nothing to be concerned about.

Subjective quality of well made blu-ray with good quality source is outstanding even on a very large home display. I mean about 4.5 meter scope screen. I cannot imagine a significant perceivable improvement over 1080p blu-ray in home displays. May be 1080/60p could get smoother if the original is 60p. So I think the improvements above blu-ray in home configurations will not be significant as dvd to blu-ray transition. Therefore, imo, blu-ray will last for a longer period of time than many others think. However, it is a different matter for commercial cinemas with huge display screens. They will surely significantly benefit from the 8K technology.

It is paramount to iron out rough edges of blu-technology and make it close to perfection as soon as possible.

I think it depends on what your view of tech is.

There is a growing group of minds that see evidence that the rate of advancement is slowing by a lot. i.e., we are reaching the peak of this wave of tech. If that is the case, BD may be the last big advancement in our lifetimes (next 100 years). I would think this is not unlikely, because of the lower ROI industry is seeing with each new step.

Of course, the majority of minds believe that technology advancements will keep making bigger and bigger jumps. If you believe this, BD may only last a few years (5-10)...

I would like to believe the latter, because I don't want to be stuck in this generation forever... I like new things. Further, Americans, the driver of the world economy for at least another 20 or 30 years, LOVE to buy new unneeded shit.

A few decades ago, a TV would last a few dozen years. Now people are buying and re buying to keep up with miniscule advancements (720P-1080P). With the rate that we are miniaturizing, it is not inconceivable that we will see 2160P or 4320P in the next few years or couple of decades. If that happens, we may see Blu-ray keep up with better formatting, but more likely, we will see something new (flash memory maybe?).

What 1080 forgets to say about HDTV being the new standard is that the BIG change is not the amount of information that is sent, it is the frequency they send it at. Also, in the Analog Age there were dozens of advancements, from B&W TV, Color, Stereo, VHS, and Laserdisc. Right now we are in the Color or Stereo stage of Digital (DVD would be the B&W stage). Saying there is no room for advancement is naive. FURTHER almost everything on TV is 720P or 1080i. Many networks are already making investments to 1080P from 720P, so why would they not invest in 2160P/4320P?

The odd thing about Blu-ray is it is not a huge step. It is a baby step that makes a large difference, but it is, basically, the same technology as DVD. It uses a shorter wave laser, and packs the digital information tighter, but it is the same thing, technologically, as DVD. My REAL question would be, what is the next MAJOR breakthrough? In 1950 what we have now was leaps and bounds away. What will we be seeing in 2060?

Oh, and don't get me started on detersive entertainment and smell-o-vision. How long until we feel the heat from fire in Backdraft and the water mist from Master and Commander? Never, maybe, but once there were movies with no ****ing sound

That's the forbidden golden banana reserved for the 900 pound Gorilla that is Digital Movie Theater. If they give THAT up, the movie studios can kiss movie theater revenus goodbye and they are VERY well aware of this.

P.S. I know YOU were kidding about the 4K in 10 years crack but I had to explain for the others why it's so ludicrous.
