I'm looking forward to not having to flip the disc in the middle of the movie

Seriously.. it has what seems to be a great quality A/V presentation of the film, and all people have done for several pages is whine about packaging

Agreed that the complaints are cuckoo. I thought Ken put it in the proper framework in his review.

Typically the disc is going to be the same. So packaging, especially for those that like it, goes into the purchasing decision making process.

Never understood why people don't get this!

I know he says he does it out of respect for the survivors, but it does seem a little pretentious to me. People were making movies about the holocaust long before this came along and there have been plenty of them since. It just comes across like he thinks his is the definitive story, the go to account of this tragedy. Too "holy" to break the fourth wall or something. I'd just be interested in hearing him talk about the making. Nevertheless it's a great movie. Just irks me a little.
I am against any commentary or anything of the sort for movies. I feel it takes away from the movie. That being said. I can see your frustration and it would piss me off if I wee speanding money for a 25 year old movie.

Spielberg took a page from Kubrick, and doesn't do commentary tracks because he doesn't want to tell people what to think about his art. He'd rather people ruminate and explore on their own, rather than have their understanding dominated by the explanation of intent.

So, what sup with the "limited edition"? I'm wondering if a single-disc Blu-ray for half the price is somewhere on the horizon.

At any rate, the film will be mine. I sold my DVD a month or so ago in anticipation of the Blu-ray.

Interestingly though, he frequently tells a story about how he once watched Lawrence of Arabia sitting with David Lean in a screening room. Lean described the making of the film, providing a live commentary track. Spielberg loved the experience.

I respect that he doesn't do commentaries, but part of me hopes he changes his mind, the way Michael Mann did.

Because it's INSANE?

You either like the movie or not.

If you're staring at the frikkin' packaging while the movie plays you're not all there. Sorry, but someone has to say it.

And you guys hijack every damn thread with your obsession when there are threads dedicated to the packaging collectors.
Now here come the excuses for breaking protocols...

Thank you for saying it. I can see the collector angle, but this thread is about the movie and this is such a well done movie on so many levels.

I am on the fence with buying it right now. As much as I enjoy this movie, viewing it once about every 10 years or more is enough for me. I can wait for the price to drop below $12.

Actaully this thread is about the release. Not just the disc....the release.
Do you understand what the term release means? Here I'll help you out:

Release: Disc(s), digitial copies, case, inserts, packaging.

Sorry. If it were against forum rules the Mods would've said something long ago.
I know it burns you everytime....

Where is the word "release" anywhere in this thread title?

The title of the thread is:
"Schindler's List - March 5, 2013 Pre-order"

And yes it does get old having to read over the same 5 people who ***** and moan about packaging when 99% of us just care about the movie.

Discuss Blu-ray movies, announcements, release dates, etc for the US and Canada.

Now I'll ask you where does it say you ONLY have to talk about the disc and how it plays?

99%...LOL, where do you get your numbers? Might want to double check.

It's also the same 5 people complaining about people posting about packaging

The packaging I believe is what's limited about it. In the future I think it'll just come in a plain amaray case.

You can talk about the packaging all you want. That is what the ignore button is for. I like to talk about the movie and the quality of the presentation. I am going to take my packaging out back and shoot it with my latest firearm purchase and then post it here on the forum so I can watch some of you guys explode.

I have to say it was hilarious when the poster here tore his Skyfall slipcover in half and some of you guys lost your marbles...

Psssssttt.. It is just a plastic/cardboard package....

I agree, it is a little nuts to focus so strongly on packaging/extras when discussing a movie as important as SL. Again, Ken struck the right tone in the review.

Funny you should have a picture of a dog as your avatar rather than the carrier/cage...
