People need to keep their movie tastes to themselves. Whether a movie is universally regarded as a great movie does not make it a must own. There are plenty of best pictures that I have seen once and need never see it again. Some people like to be entertained, others depressed, others to laugh, others to cry. We all watch movies for different reasons. There is not one movie that everyone will say is great. Please find one. It doesn't exist.

Any one can explain it to me that why my ps3 can play kingdom of heaven(which supplies DTS-HD MA audio only)? My receiver didn't decode DTS-HD MA either, it is old onkyo 5 series.

DTS-MA is backwards compatible to DTS. I.e., if you can't decode MA -- the player will decode a "core" track that is basically just regular DTS.

It decodes the core DTS soundtrack.

dts-ma contains a legacy dts track inside it, running at 1.5 Mbps.

If your equipment doesn't support dts-ma then the core dts track is extracted instead.

Just a general question since I'm stupid when it comes to HD audio.

My receiver won't do anything with HDMI audio other than passthrough. It does have analog 7.1 inputs however.

While I know the PS3 can't utilize them, I was thinking about picking up a 2.0 player that does analog 7.1 output. What is the audio capacity for analog 7.1 connections?

Depending on the answer, I may just opt for a new receiver when this patch is released instead.

As long as the player decodes the codecs -- a receiver and player both with 7.1 analog outs/ins will work fine (and you will get the full resolution). Make sure that DACs on the player are high quality, since you will be doing a digital-to-analog conversion.

Can you elaborate on "full resolution" here? Are we talking lossless?

The receiver is an Onkyo HTR550. I haven't even begun to look at players... I suppose my ultimate choice will come down to whether a new player is cheaper than a new receiver.

Oh yeah. The Rat movie is excellent. and beautiful. But you have to have a taste for it. Many don't. If you don't like it. No skin off my back. I happen to love Star Wars, but Indiana Jones even more. Some people like There Will Be Blood. Give me 3:10 to Yuma anyday over that. Or the Rat Movie for that matter.
