Out of all the actors in TDKR? Michael Caine and his blubbering? I thought the scenes with Alfred tended to be the most awful parts of the movie, honestly

You know how the academy felt they got around this issue- they threw Skyfall a couple of noms as an action film that was something they could stomach. More mature I guess.

The awards are a pretentious pile of garbage. Half the films I never heard of, had limited release in LA or NY, or just came out in like Dec / Jan. In fact, were any of the movies nominated in most of the major categories released before November? Its always about what is freshest in their minds.

I agree. Over the course of the 3 films he was great, but TDKR was his worst.
And not in it enough for me to say without him the film would have been that much better or worse.

Wow. Definitely in the minority on that one. It was highly favorably reviewed and obviously loved to make the money it did. So it was a true blcokbuster and probably my favorite movie of 2012. I did love Django and Hobbit, but not as much as Avengers.

I agree that most of the major categories it really didnt deserve, except for best Picture. Of the 9 films nominated, it was better then half of them. The acting categories no way. And hell, what Whedon did to make this story and gel it all together, Director wouldnt have been a stretch.

TDKR- is his weakest film in that series and had so many issues in flow in places. I bought it but havent even watched it.

Those lesser categories- sound, editing, mixing, etc would be where the academey, if it was going to stick to being stuck up a-holes, could at least sorta make an effort and give them some of the technical awards.

Not really, their noms were predictable, in fact they snubbed so many great "smaller" movies that were more deserving: The Master, Once Upon a time in Anatolia, Holy Motors, Rust & Bone, Turin Horse......

I do agree with the sentiment, but I'd say Beasts of the Southern Wild is definitely not your typical Best Picture nom, and not all that predictable a pick based on the show's track record..

I wish Prometheus was nominated for
Best Set Design
Best Supporting Actor (Micheal Fassbender)

I also wish The Hunger Games was nominated for something.

I agree about Fassbender, really convincing performance in Prometheus. I wasn't surprised by the lack of noms for THG, and while I thought it was great, I'm not sure what I'd nominate it for. Perhaps Best Adapted Screenplay if anything.

Yeah I wasn't surprised it wasn't nominated for anything either. Best Adapted Screenplay would have been nice. I wish award programs didn't discriminate against the action, horror and science fiction genres.

Now, Skyfall I would say was the "Blockbuster" that deserved to be in the running for Big Picture.
that's what annoys me - they do look at these like kids movies but then give the awards to some dumb movie like Life of Pi instead because it is some uplifting tale that has been told a thousand times before. Not saying Rises or Avengers should have been up for Best Picture but there have been tons over the years that should have been and get ignored. hard to consider the Oscars as awarding excellence in motion pictures when they ignore half the movies that are released.

Prometheus was snubbed IMO for sound and visuals. Also, why wasn't Fassbender nominated for David?
Skyfall should've won best picture or at the very least for cinematography.
Life of Pi has a green screen look .

Ben Affleck for not getting a director nomination (yet his movie is voted best picture?!?!? Makes no sense to me)

Javier Bardem not getting a nomination for his character in 'SkyFall'

Brave WINNING????!!!??? Wtf! Frankenweeine, Wreck it Ralph, Paranorman were different applications of animation (more specifically Frankenweeine and Paranorman) and the story was better (Wreck It Ralph). I think Brave won because it was a Pixar flick.

How does it feel to be heartless? A couple of his scenes still choke me up a little, and that almost never happens.

I'm not really pissed about any snubs, but it seems odd that Affleck wasn't nominated for Director, especially since Argo won.

The thing that bugs me about the Oscars is that they simply pick 10 movies, and then recycle them throughout all the categories.

I would have loved to see a few nods to the little guys. Best Supporting Actress to Ann Dowd in Compliance. Best Adapted Screenplay to Perks Of Being A Wallflower. Etc.

However, I'm not at all surprised that they weren't nominated.

I'm glad Argo took Best Picture. Superb film. I would have been annoyed if Lincoln or Zero Dark Thirty took it.

None really upset me this year. Overall I felt that it was a down year, not many categories that I felt all that strongly about anyway. The few that I didn't like...

Best Supporting Actor - Christoph Waltz was a co-lead, not a supporting character. TBS, I didn't really like any of the other nominees all that much. I would have gone for John Goodman for Flight.

Best Original Screenplay - Django Unchained, probably went to Tarantino by default because so many academy members didn't like the work by Wes Anderson or the controversy surrounding Zero Dark Thirty.

Best Foreign Language Film - Intouchables should have at least got a nomination to make this category interesting.

Best Animated Feature Film - Brave received the obligatory Pixar Oscar(the name will officially be changed next year). I haven't seen any of the other nominees yet, but surely one of them was better than Merida and the dancing bears.

I think Skyfall for Best Picture or at least Best Director. But oh well. I at

least grabbed a Tech award and Best Song. Not bad.

Mine is that Cloud Atlas didn't get nominated for makeup.

What do you guys think?
Not sure about furious but I thought Gwyneth Paltrow over Kate Winslet was an eye opener. Circa 1998.

yeah and they need to be submitted which is a little confusing - how can you select the best picture of the year when you are only looking at some movies? it is like saying you won first place at a beauty pageant but you had to pay a $100 000 entry fee so only a handful of people entered. also makes me laugh when a movie wins best picture yet doesn't sweep(or at least win a lot of) the rest of the categories - you would think best picture would mean they had the best of everything. unless there is no way around it, it is almost like they say "okay, we need to be fair and spread out the awards. no movie should hog them all"
