Honestly, I loved Godfather, but I thought Godfather Part 2 was better. Both movies are great though and whenever I watch them, I don't consider them long movies.

+1!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Even though I've seen it 2 dozen times I'll still buy it.

Close to flawless movies out on BD (IMO):
300
Apocalypto
Goodfellas
Ratatouille
Troy
Casino Royale
Crash
DejaVu
Deliverance
The Departed
The Last Samurai
Memento
Sunshine
Training Day
The Untouchables
The Usual Suspects
The Patriot

That should get you started. Those are "must own" movies IMO.

I think your answer is about the only thing everyone can agree on. There is not a single movie that everyone can regards as great.

It's a wonderful life.

Never seen a bad word said about it. And pretty much as close to perfect as you're ever likely to see.

uh..so why did you start this thread?
Well it had to be started. It's a great question. You don't have to try an answer it, and i'd prefer it if you didn't.

It's fun to discuss what people think are great movies. It seems many mobster movies are considered great by so many, and just another gangster movie by others (Godfather I, II, Goodfellas, Casino, etc.). There is no genre that everyone loves. Some adults hate cartoons. Some hate violence and sex on tv. But where are those family values of which we belong.... oh, wait.

Xtop, you're right. The answer is most likely NO. And that's my point. When people say, that movie sucks. Or that movie was amazing. People really take these things to heart when that person's taste may not even remotely reflect that of the former.

To be honest, I get sick and tired of people quoting rottentomatoes.com
But maybe it's because I think all critics don't know their asses from their mouths, or maybe they do but they choose not to care.

"A good movie is never too long and a bad movie is never too short". I'll have to go with "The Wizard of Oz"

I like this film, however in the non-christian world it does not carry as much magic as it does in parts of the world with a strong Christian presence.

Can't say anything bad about Casablanca, but I have to disagree re. Shawshank.

I could never believe that after all those years no guard ever looked behind the poster during a sweep. "one bad egg can rot the whole barrel"

I guess there's a reason it's still considered one of the greatest movies of all time.

I have never met anyone who did not like Raiders, even people who don't usually care for action/adventure movies.

Sorry, but to me, some of those are very "OK" and no more. And I straight up HATED crash. That's the most racist movie that tries to act like it's not racist. It's a race movie for and by white people. Anyone who disagrees is welcome to try me, but seriously...it totally overlooks institutionalized racism for the most part (except for a few notable scenes) and relies on blatant racism to comfort people with the fact that you don't see that shit in the streets every day. <<my opinion. It didn't deserve to even be nominated for best picture imo.
