Not dumb... just one that could have been answered with a tiny bit or research and/or the use of the "search" function.

The answer is: The current PS3 hardware is not capable of bitstreaming either Dolby TrueHD or DTS-HD MA and no amount of firmware will EVER make it able to do so.

Maybe a future edition of the PS3 will come with a revised/different HDMI chipset... but the current PS3's are incapable of it.
