Ugh, not looking forward to this preorder. I liked it when no one knew about these releases, I mean I didn't even preorder Fright Night day one and I still got a copy no problem from SAE/TT.

Now it's gearing up to be another Christine-sized bloodbath for The Blob. I'll be there minute one this time, just like with Christine. Fingers crossed...

This movie won't sell out as fast as Christine, not even close. And the reason is CARPENTER!

I think at this point that anything semi-mainstream horror from TT will sellout quickly based on precedent (Fright Night, NOTLD'90, Christine).

I think I was about 5 when I first saw the original THE BLOB on tv in the late 60's. I remember being in awe of the tv commercial (showing the blob attacking the movie theater) and my parents let me watch it later that night. It was scary and fun and became a favorite as I saw it many more times on tv over the years. But that doesn't mean I prefer it over the 1988 remake. They are both films of their eras and probably appeal to different generations overall. 80's horror fans may find the old-fashioned innocence of the original as hokey, and fans who grew up with the original may feel the 80's one is too graphic, etc. Personally, I love them both!

I do recall seeing the remake opening show on opening day at a theater in San Diego (I was down there for work at the Comicon, but I just had to see THE BLOB before going to the con that Friday). There was only one other person in the entire theater. I loved the film immediately as it definitely toyed with some standard horror conventions (pun unintended) at the time and had quite a few shocking surprises as to how certain characters were dispatched and who exactly were the true protagonists. Later that week, I dragged a friend to see it at a nighttime show in L.A. at the Westwood Village and she enjoyed it, and at least that time there were a decent number of people in the audience. I also convinced my boss to go see it, and she did on her own, but she wasn't impressed. It was a boxoffice bomb, of course, but not for lack of trying on my part.

Heck, I even love SON OF BLOB!

Those opinions can be found in the 90 NOTLD thread... but, you'd have to find them, lol.

Is 80s horror really incredibly more popular than 80s sci-fi? Enemy Mine has been around for a long time without selling out...I think John Carpenter/Stephen King made a big difference with Christine, The Blob may sell much better than Enemy Mine but I doubt it'll be nearly as fast as Christine.

TT must have known this too. Limits were set up for Christine but not for the Fury.

The Blob remake has grown a cult following over the years and is often cited as good a remake as The Thing and The Fly remakes in many current horror articles which creates more curiosity to unfamilar viewers.

I don't ever see The Fury being brought up in many articles nowadays.

I know any gorehound kid like I was will prefer it to the campy original. It's just sad that we'll probably never get any features for this film now, I'd love to see a SE with at least a commentary. TT will likely add the Isolated score and that's it from all I've read about Sony not allowing other studios to produce extras, and the dvd having nada. Trailer and score is sadly all unless something drastic changes with Sony's practices by then.

It may depend if they impose a limit, the scalpers may force a quick sell out, never underestimate the power of greed.
