Default Upgrading from DVD to Blu-ray. Is it worth it?

I recently bought a DVD copy of A.I. Artificial Intelligence for brand new and very cheap (like $2 cheap) at Blockbuster closing sale. I had wanted to see it for many years (and I am glad I did as it was fantastic), so I couldn't pass that up. But now, I am trying to decide if its worth upgrading to blu-ray so quickly as I have heard mixed things about the release. Don't get me wrong. I have done this for certain films already (E.T., Jaws, Titanic, etc.). But, with the $14.99 price tag on Amazon (as of 3-11-13), is it truly worth the money or do I just keep my DVD copy.

Have you guys dealt with this before?

Any help will be appreciated.

99.9% of the time the BD is worth the upgrade. Where you tend to run into issues is a potential difference in extras.

Look and see for yourself. It really comes down to personal opinion. Are you satisfied having the DVD or is it something that you think the blu-ray would do more justice to for future watchings?

I have heard almost all of the extras were ported over from the original DVD release.

I think my main question is the $14.99 price tag for a catalog title worth the money? It seems a bit steep for a blu-ray with nothing but the disc and case.

I'm slowly upgrading myself, but I try to aim for about $6 per upgrade. The price-point above that isn't very much worth it for me at this point. Good thing I bought most of my DVDs for very cheap as well... It's a bit tough to unload some of them.

I only tend to buy a couple of Blu Rays at a time since I like to watch everything I buy at least once. Upgrading my collection too suddenly would give me too many movies to watch.

So far, upgrading has been very much worth it! Plus, it saves space on my shelves for new releases.

It comes down to how much you like the film. I'd gladly spend $15 on a catalog title I enjoy as long as PQ and AQ are top notch and there's a good helping of extras.

Awesome avatar first off!

Most would say that, but I go by how much do I like any certain film, and how many times am I likely to watch it. I've been tempted by many blu-rays, then I go look at dvdprofiler and see I haven't watched the dvd for 10 years or so, and that stops me in my tracks from buying them. Features play a part too, I'd love to have Lord of War and Man on Fire on blu, but have stacked 2-disc dvds for both while the blus have nothing. Those I just check out from the library when I'm ready to watch now, thankfully they're often there on the rack, not on someone's hold list.

I keep seeing the A.I. blu at Sams Club while looking for Terminator, but I think it's $12.99 there.

I feel the same way. I have a few films in my collection that were blind buys (about 4 I think) that I still haven't seen. I don't like doing to much of blind buying as I constantly worry if I would like the film or not and don't want to waste money.

I think the answer to this question depends on your setup. When people ask this question it tells me they don't have a great video or audio setup. I you did, you would want the BEST there is for each category because it is so obvious when you watch old crap. I personally plan to continually upgrade my set up so I always want the BEST picture and sound possible.

I have 2 setups in my house. First, I have a Harman/Kardon 5.1 surround sound setup and 40' Samsung LED HDTV. The second one is in my gallery.

Money is more of my issue here.

I remember AI looking and sounding awesome. It is heavy on the grain, but heck, that's the way Spielberg likes it (and the way lots of film purists prefer it). Still a very sharp and clean-looking picture. Most of the extras are indeed ported, but I remember reading somewhere that the docs are shortened a bit, and I don't remember if the BD has the image galleries. I kept my DVDs in addition to the Blu-Ray, just in case.

Even a mediocre Blu-Ray transfer offers at least a small visual upgrade to the previous DVD verison (as long as they don't smother it with DNR).

A.I. was one of those films I couldn't wait to upgrade to Blu for. It looks fantastic in high-def. Awesome movie.

Is it worth upgrading to blu-ray? What is this, 2006? We should all know by now that blu-ray is always better than DVD and always worth upgrading if you care about getting the best picture and sound currently possible at home. I feel silly even writing this...

Like I said earlier. I have done upgraded many dvds before. I LOVE Blu-ray.

I think I will get the blu for A.I. pretty soon. I am trying to save some money at the same time for other reasons. If it gets to $9.99, I will totally get it.

Now, I feel like this question was kinda stupid to ask on BLU-RAY.com...
