I think I'm going to. Badlands was the Criterion title I've been waiting for all month. Plus, I had my copy of Rust And Bone and Who Framed Roger Rabbit (which was delayed a week for me somehow...). Incredible.

Yeah really odd, in all of 3-4 years of PRIME ordering I've never ha a title not come thru on release date delivery. I feel your pain... Badlands is the blu I've been waiting for since the rumors of a Criterion release were being typed on this forum. Never seen Badlands, always wanted to... glad my first time will be in HD on BLU.

Amazon.com says that my copy of Badlands is "shipping soon."

'Tis quite alright. I was going to wait until the weekend to watch it anyway.

I've still got the last two Resident Evil flicks to watch from my box set. The first three look outstanding on Blu-ray.

Roger Rabbit was delayed because of a DVD mix up. Mine shipped yesterday.

I envy all of you people who have never seen Badlands before. You are all in for a real cinematic treat.

I think that I will put Bruce Springsteen's Nebraska (my favorite Springsteen album) into rotation this week, since the title song was inspired by the Charles Starkweather/Caril Ann Fugate events depicted in the film.

EDIT: I'll let y'all in on the fun as well...

Here are the lyrics:
[Show spoiler]
Bruce Springsteen - "Nebraska"

"I saw her stangin' on her front lawn
Just twirlin' her baton
Me and her went for a ride sir
And ten innocent people died

From the town of Lincoln Nebraska
Aith a sawed-off .410 on my lap
Through to the badlands of Wyoming
I killed everything in my path

I can't say that I'm sorry
For the things that we done
At least for a little while sir
Me and her we had us some fun

The jury brought in a guilty verdict
And the judge he sentenced me to death
Midnight in prision storeroom
With leather straps across my chest

Sheriff when the man pulls
That switch sir and snaps my poor neck back
You make sure my pretty baby
Is sittin' right there on my lap

They declared me unfit to live
Said into that great void my soul'd be hurled
They wanted to know why I did what I did
Well sir I guess there's just a meanness in this world"

Oh, great album. Atlantic City is a perfect song.

I can't wait to complete the Malick collection with Badlands. I've only seen Badlands once, and it's an A+ film, but I think I like all of Malicks later work more. I revisited The New World on Sunday and I was stunned. What really stuck was the editing. Most of the film is conprised of jump cuts and visual symbolism. Not to mention shooting from odd angles, like from behind and extremely low; also the brief moments he employs POV are all experiential shots of piercing through the "New World." It's apparent that Malick is not after story telling but story unearthing. He knows the history books all too well, but what he's after is the experience the two cultures must have had in that pivotal time. Both in relation to their surroundings and in relation to each other.

Badlands is loosely based on the Starkweather murder spree. I really don't think there are scenes in the film that are entirely accurate to the events.

Kinda like the Boss' album, the Starkweather events were just an inspiration for the film.

True that. Malick's film uses the Starkweather case as a base inspiration. A loosely-based depiction would have been a better description.

I had fun watching The New World again on Friday night, and I agree that Malick's depiction of the two cultures encountering one another is quite superb.

This goes well with the current Badlands discussion, since Malick seems more interested in capturing the feeling of the events than portraying the accurate history in a clinical manner.

WILD STRAWBERRIES - Quite interested, but I have yet to see ANY Bergman, so is this a good place to start? I have to be careful to choose one that will hook my wife... Recommendations appreciated.

THINGS TO COME - Looks fun, but not at the top of my 'to buy' list (I'm pretty new to Criterion, so there are quite a few films ahead of it)

SAFETY LAST! - This sounds really fun. Quite interested in this.

MARKETA LAZAROVA - Never heard of it before, but it sounds really great. This is probably the Blu-Ray I am most interested in from the announcement.

SHOAH - Is the only one I am completely disinterested in. I can't imagine ever pulling it off the shelf.
My advice is to start with The Seventh Seal, as that is, what I consider to be, Bergman's masterpiece.

I'm happy to see "Things to Come" get a release. The novel it's based on is fascinating as Wells accurately predicted several actions that Hitler took in the following years after its publication.

I watched a PD release on the internet many years ago, this is classic sci-fi cinema, almost ahead of its time (feels more like a 50s sci-fi film). I have a copy of the film on the Legend release that also contains "She" but the picture quality is pretty poor. Hoping for a good upgrade here.

I might be missing something here but why do people buy in-store from Best Buy (Other than having reward zone certs)?

Because there's a Best Buy store located two football field lengths away from my apartment.

I ordered Badlands from Amazon for the same price, though.

Incidentally, there really are not any Blu-rays left in Best Buy that interest me, since I already purchased all of the current movies that I wanted to purchase from the store during the most recent Upgrade & Save. There are a handful of Criterion Blu-rays that I'll upgrade at some point (Rosemary's Baby, A Night To Remember, the Chaplin movies) if/when I get Rewards Points promotions and such, but, aside from the occasional new release, nothing captures my attention.

You can use the certificates online. I go in-store only for SteelBooks though. I don't trust the shipping.

I rec'd my Badlands / Life of C. B. order. The sticker for Badlands just says Dir Approved, but doesn't have the signature. Must have stopped doing that Or Malick wasn't available to do one for the release.

Cases look good at first Badlands looked like a BOX cut on the spine but It looks like it is just the outer plastic and not the case. Love the WB logo on the back cover and nice to know the original Saul Bass logo is intact for Badlands.

I agree, I watched Summer with Monika after The Seventh Seal. I plan on watching Wild Strawberries on DVD through Netflix to determine if I want to pre-order. Seventh Seal is a must buy, Summer with Monika not so much...

I agree whole heartedly, but it always makes me sad to see The Magician never get mentioned on these boards. It's certainly not his masterpiece, but a great film by any estimation.
