I am sticking to mine too, best version available. Still open for a remaster as long as it is done right...

Not if it's yet another new scan/master (or, the previous new scan sans DNR).

So did you bust up laughing as you wrote that?

You really think they're going to spend the money for a cheap 3D conversion? (Yes, the JVC process is cheap, and after seeing I Robot, not very good.)

more interested in the toys than in seeing this in 3D but it is one of the few movies I think might be good in 3D. it already has some shots in there that would look good once converted - Arnold falling down into the waterfall, etc. but still, probably won't see this. only good part is we might get a new bluray out of it.

Not at all. A new scan was created for the UHE, they just added way too much DNR when readying it for blu. There's a decent chance they will go back to that scan and present the new disc unaltered. So if they are going to spend the time and money making a 3-D conversion, then yes, they can certainly go back to a good scan they already have and fix their mistake.

What you call a mistake, the studio considers undeserved criticism.

This.

And, the UHE will likely look pretty good in 3D....one of the biggest gripes people have about 3D is how dark the picture looks.

Not this one, folks!!!!

And, finally, not everyone is appalled by the UHE, anyway.

No matter which transfer they use, my ass will be in a seat when it comes out.

I dont see this getting a proper conversion, ill bet it gets one similar in quality to i robot. Ive noticed the only movies that get the nice(looked like it was filmed in 3d) conversions are the big blockbuster movies, Titanic, Topgun, etc. I do hope they do it right, better than their Bluray transfer anyway.

Awesome news!
And if there is a new transfer, that would even better!

Chances are they'll take the 2010 DNR disaster and convert it. As I said earlier, another cash grab just like I, Robot. They know some people will buy anything with 3D on it. That's why bastardizations such as The Avengers 3D, Top Gun 3D, and Clash of the Titans 3D exist.

I'm sorry, but I need to ask: I know Clash of the Titans has a terrible 3D version, and The Avengers 3D has a subpar one, but I've heard nothing but good stuff about the 3D version of Top Gun, which I bought relatively recently. I haven't watched it yet, but can you tell me exactly why it's a bastardization?

Finally, Marcais was asked about the policy when remastering catalog titles and specifically about Predator. The Fox executive acknowledges that they got a lot of criticism, "but I don't think it was deserved," he countered, because the movie was shot on a film stock that wasn't good enough, and the Blu-ray version "represents what the filmmaker wanted it to look like." He said that Fox discusses the issue of "removing grain or not" with the filmmakers, as long as they are alive.

A Fox exec defended a BD release from his studio. Go figure....

The UHE transfer with the contrast boosting and DNR was pretty much made for the 3D conversion anyway, it never should have existed in 2D form to begin with.

This is just a shameless cheap cash in by the studios who will rush this out because some sheep out there will follow. Sorry if I offended any one, but this film was NEVER made with 3D cameras nor was it ever intended to be seen in 3D. Its a similar argument made when the UHE first hit the streets. The film was never shot with digital modern HD cameras, so trying to tweak the contrast, brightness, sharpness and then removing all the grain from the picture makes it look worse because not only does that grain hold information, but you are altering the product of its soul.

A film shot completely in 2D has no business being converted to 3D. It's no different than colorizing a black and white film.

If the transfer for this new release sucks, then I'll probably never own Predator on Blu-ray.
