It is only amazing as long as CGI is involved. Which has been rendered in 3D in the first place. Real-only footage is pretty flat on Avengers. In some places I started to wonder whether my display had the hiccups and had switched to 2D somehow.

Didn't Fox go back and make Patton right with a re-release? If so, they're surely aware how unpopular DNR is.
Given Predator: UHE is one of the worst and most well-known examples of DNR, I would think they'd try to fix it, much like Patton. |

I think it depends on the post-production work to convert the 3D. Most are weak and others can look amazing (Titanic). Titanic actually made it seem like the film was shot in 3D.

Yeah, I know that Titanic is probably the best conversion yet. But I was surprised they did such a shabby conversion job with an $220mio movie like Avengers.

Actually, The Avengers looks atrocious. Terrible conversion and hideous picture quality shot with garbage 2.3K digital cameras. The past decade of movies in particular are extremely ugly and have the worst picture quality in cinema's history.

Why in hell would they release this movie in 3D? Honestly. I'm a huge fan of this movie but have zero interest in seeing these older movies converted to 3D. In fact I have pretty much zero interest in any 3D movies. I really wish 3D would just hurry up and die out.

The UHE WAS a new transfer of a supposedly new master. They just mucked it up with DNR. It won't get ANOTHER new transfer, but they CAN go back and remove the manipulation done to the UHE.
Again, it still will only look marginally better than the original release, because that's how the film always looked. Quote:

Keep in mind before the UHE release, many people on every forum complained the movie was too damn grainy. So, what did Fox do on the UHE? Gave them what they wanted and took things further to in essence create a video game look to the film.

Some of you are missing the point. It is not about high quality, it is about content. 3D broadcasters and other 3D media providers will have to buy into this to make it work. Blu-ray sales alone wont do it. Fox and JVC think the price is right with this cheap conversion process to make this happen. It is still in the trial balloon stage. The more 3D content available, the faster the adoption rate of 3D for the home entertainment market. That is the objective. http://www.digitaltrends.com/home-th...ntent-drought/
40 to 50 new 3D titles per year isn't enough. The selection of Predator for conversion is a no brainer, due to its continuing popularity. If other studios follow Fox's lead, for better or worse, we will see a lot of catalogue conversions. I hope this happens. There are several war movies I would add to my collection if converted. It already received a new master in 2010, but then Fox DNRed the crap out of it. I what that new master unmolested on a BD-50 with an AVC encode as do most of us here.
