MGM has the rights to the international cut in other countries, but not the US? That seems a little bizarre...

Seeing as Shout is doing newer films under the Scream Factory banner, i would hope that they get the rights to the awesome Ginger Snaps Trilogy. Would make my millennium. Too bad i think theyre with Lionsgate

Ginger Snaps (2000) is one awesome movie and Ginger Snaps II: Unleashed (2004) is an excellent sequel, but Ginger Snaps III: The Beginning (2004) was a total bore for me. I didn't mind so much that it was a prequel to the first two because that meant we'd get Katharine Isabelle back (other than just in Brigitte's mind), but I hate that they jumped so far back in the past, almost 200 years. They should have set it a few days/weeks/months before the original.

I'd love parts 1 and 2 on Blu.

This version cannot be released in the US because in her contract Adrienne Barbeau has a clause stating that no scenes of nudity involving her will be released in the US market. That combined with the upset parents caused MGM to pull the first release.
It's easy to say "upset parents" pulled the release, but the reality is that it was just a matter of time before someone found out that they put the wrong version on the DVD. Because there's a binding legal contract involved with Barbeau, that disc was going to be pulled no matter what -- whether "upset parents" found out first is really a non-issue. Somebody who cares was bound to find out she was nude one way or another!

What I find odd is that she'd do the nudity -- but just want it cut for the U.S. market. Why do the nudity at all if it was such a concern for her?

Well being the early 80's she probably just thought no one she knew would ever see the overseas cut.

She is topless in Open House, although I'm not sure if the version I saw was taken from an non-US disc.

Ginger Snaps (2000) @ Millennium Entertertainment (Formely First Look)

Ginger Snaps II: Unleashed (2004) @ Lionsgate
Ginger Snaps III: The Beginning (2004) @ Lionsgate

Ginger 1 could happen withing the next year through Millennium Entertertainment (Formely First Look) but would be barebones. I would wait for a Canadian release with all the works.

Ginger II & III you would have to wait for an act of God before you see Lionsgate invest anything on their own catalog titles.

They are really respected here, i used to live in Manitoba and nearly everyone i knew compares this to many more popular American titles. i know that someone once called it the polar opposite of Juno. being that junos a fantastic comedy and Ginger is a fantastic horror.

Millenium has been expressing intrest in putting out a lot of horror titles soon, and theyre reportedly giving many films some special editions... so i hope they do this
