To the point discussed, got to side with the ‘pagemaster’ on this one…as there’s an old saying in the business that goes something like…‘the encryption level for a DCP is equivalent to that used by the Bank of England….so if you can break the encryption of a DCP, you might as well hack the bank!
There really is no debating the DCP issue, the DCP encryption has not been broken, even if one broke it, one would need a DCP compliant projector and compatible server that would need to "handshake" in order to correctly work. You would also need to have a certified tech to sign off on it in the case of a legit set up.

DCP and DCP playback is not plug and play, they need to handshake each other.

The circles we went around in when I asked how his system was calibrated were a joy.
lol, I remember that conversation, he didn't even lie about his equipment he just ran around saying it didn't matter, It's "superb"

I don't think much of the results, of course blu ray for hardcore "home theatre" use is going to win. But for the majority that don't have screens past 60+, streaming will do fine.

It ended up in the usual, 'no muss, no fuss, a crystal clear 1080p picture on my the superb setup with Apple TV' sort of conversation as I recall.

I rarely debate. I post facts.

In regards to that, I’m fully aware of basic DCP security involved as well as the interaction of the Studio Public Key, the DCP Key, the Screen Public Key and the Screen Private Key as it relates to DCP/KDM security, which is essentially a public key infrastructure used to protect banks as well as military secrets.

….Not to mention being aware of the current impetus in industry to encourage the studios to use the greatest and latest for automated key delivery….which is the ‘theater key retrieval’ method of delivery.

But thanks for the response from your perspective as a past projectionist.

The masses don't collect laserdisc, dvd, and blu ray like I do...and they certainly don't collect the first three and support and enjoy downloading or streaming as well.

You said in the other thread you had less than 20 blurays and weren't going to buy anymore because you had Apple TV now, which allowed you to watch Tender Mercies at crystal clear 1080p on an Apple TV, and streaming looked the same to you. You also don't know what calibration is.

That puts you firmly in the masses camp.

Oh I still buy them, just not as much as I used to. The last two are The Dark Knight Rises and Perks of a Wallflower. Blu ray is a wonderful media, however it is not the only media that is getting my money. I rent about 6 digital movies per every 1 blu ray that I buy right now. maybe it is 8 to 1.

Yes it is, from amazon. It might not have been released, but anyone who isn't one of the masses would know, that isnt the same as not available.

don't forget that his said "no blu-ray is worth over $6.99-$9.99... EVER". so I think it's out of his price range

Well, this is a different consideration. He's spent the last 36 pages arguing on behalf of 'the masses' and it's all suddenly different when it's pointed out to him he's made himself one of them.

The only thing that differentiates him from this 'masses' is that he's one of the few people who actually bought an Apple TV, one of their only flops.

My point was, if you just spend the money and see it in the theatre you wouldn't have to buy the blu ray, how anyone honestly pays more than $10 is beyond me, complete waste of money on anything over that price.

I generally see the movie in the theatre, once I have seen it, I usually never need to see it ever again

With Jobs gone, and smartphones and tablets now becoming commodity items with much more competition from Android devices... Apple's renaissance period is coming to an end.

There are a few movies that I would watch more than others, most of them one viewing is all I need. Most folks I know are the same.
