Very interesting and yeah, movies are made for entertainment. I hate when people think they know all the facts about something when they see the movie.

If they made the movie completely based on historical events it would be 4 hours of mostly talking

Surprised they didn't mention U-571.
In any case, these type things rarely bother me. I'm not looking for a history-lesson, I'm usually just looking to be entertained when I go to the theater or when I'm watching a movie at home. Quote:

The 2001 bit almost made me pee.
I wouldn't categorize it as historically inaccurate as when the film was made the time period in which it was set was not history. Had NASA's Apollo budget not been slashed, we may well be working and living on the moon, travelling to Jupiter and having monolith/HAL issues. |

Some directors do get it right though. Ridley Scott took some liberties with the characters in BHD (combining some into composites for the audience to easier follow), but told the events almost exactly as they happened.

The 10,000 BC comment made me laugh. I said the same thing when the ID4 came out...
As for Elizabeth 2, I mentioned the timeline to my wife (Ivan the Terrible, Elizabeth's age...). Really funny stuff. But, I enjoy the entertainment value provided by film... if they were 100% fact, wouldn't they be called documentaries? |

10 Most Historically Inaccurate Movies
1. 1000 B.C. 2. Gladiator 3. 300 4. The Last Samurai 5. Apocalypto 6. Memoirs of a Geisha 7. Braveheart 8. Elizabeth: The Golden Age 9. The Patriot 10. 2001: A Space Odyssey It is ironic that three of the movies involved Mel Gibson. I would add "The Passion of the Christ" as another historically inaccurate movie by good old Mel. He wins the gold medal. The silver goes to Roland Emmerich. I would definitely add “Independence Day” to the list. I can stretch the list by adding every movie that was ever made by Hollywood as politically and historically inaccurate. |
