I am a huge Star Trek TOS fan. To me JJ Abram isn't Star Trek. It is a Star Wars version of Star Trek. Why not just make a new Star Trek film with new characters if you aren't going to make it anywhere near TOS? I bet people would be really pissed if Joss Whedon rebooted the OT of Star Wars with the same characters but made it like Buffy. I also love the original versions of the original Star Wars trilogy but what Lucas did to them in my opinion has ruined them. The prequels are just horrible films in themselves.

I have zero hope that the new Star Wars films will be any good or excite me the way the originals did. Perhaps my posts that are meant to be jokes come off wrong so I apologize for that.

Hopefully I am wrong and the new films are the greatest things ever created by man.

Yeah I felt the same about JJ Abrams's Star Trek, even though it's appeals more to broader audiences, its essentially just diluting the essence of star trek which was much more than action even the original star wars wasn't about the action but the adventure, there's a big difference. Trek was more about morality and philosophy as well as adventure it blended them nicely, which made it kind of a nerdy show which is why the nerd humans love it, take that essence away its just messing the whole formula. You might as well take the great films like 2001 or the Godfather and reboot them with like more action, hot women. people punching each other in the face for no reason and yeh lets add a transformer or something to keep the teenagers happy and an ewok that'll take care of the kids

I must be in the minority of 'Star Trek' fans who loves the original series, as well as the spin-offs, but also J.J.'s film...I thought it was great, and it kept true to the characters, while adding a bit of adrenaline into it. I didn't mind that in the slightest. It's different, but it works.

I did like the new Star Trek film a lot, but it feels too far off in the new style that it's created and the approach its taken, which kind of makes different to feel and style of the rest of star trek. If it was called something else like 'kirk and spock' then it wouldn't of made a difference because its really an action film, 'die hard meets star trek' or something. If the action is taken away it's just a simple story not as complex as Star Trek generally is.

Huh?
You said: "Are you even a Star Trek fan? If not your opinion is invalid."

I'm asking you what: rules, regulations, ordinances, or bylaws substantiate that?
I'm not a fan of the Dentist offices, but I can certainly offer my opinion.

Where is it written you have to be a fan of something to have a valid opinion.

I getcha.

In fact, reading your posts after staring at the picture of Malcolm always makes me think it's tongue in cheek. I've probably thought you were joking one time or more when you were actually dead serious.

How big would the backlash be if my homeboy Taylor Lautner were to be cast in this?

He has a better chance being cast as Norman in a remake of On Golden Pond.

Oh and btw you forgot your shrug emoticon buddy.
It boggles my mind at how any Trek fan could not love JJ's film.

There are canon flaws that annoy some people. Not me, just saying is all. I know the alternate universe is the answer, but some are still there if you're really pedantic. One example is how fast they got to Vulcan. At that speed Voyager would have gotten back to the alpha quadrant in days.

[Show spoiler]My answer the Trekkies hated: data on the spacial rupture that Nero arrived through was applied to warp drive, and the technology increased more rapidly that in the original timeline. This also explains why the Federation border has already reached the Cardassian Union, the initial conflict is over (probably because they reached Cardassia 100 years before they did the first time, and they were not as technologically capable back then), and they are already trading drinks!

There's a lot of people here who don't understand Trek (I can see a lot of y'all do, so don't shoot me, but there are still some people who just don't "get it"), but ultimately it is more annoying visiting the Trek site, cause a lot of them don't understand film. If you get the business, and why things were changed, you can enjoy Trek '09, Trekkie or not.

They all would have preferred a $10 Million budget movie, continuing the story into the future, with minimal revenue. A fan treat. Paramount didn't see it that way, and I am a Trekkie who is very glad!

Agreed on all counts. I was always into the original show but wasnt sure what to expect with Abrams Trek. I liked it - not loved it, but liked it. I think he set the characters up to be true to their original selves for the most part. There was some hom,age paid to the original too which was nice. But, he did make his own film which you cant fault him for. I dont ever remember the idea being to make a prequel to the TV series. That wouldnt have worked from a financial standpoint, IMO.

It is what it is. Its not perfect by any means and I have to say that time travel in films is always a "cheap" way to reset or restart something. I dont like it and wish there could have been another way but there really isnt. It just seems rather implausible and hard to believe. But, thats what we got.

The second film will have to be really strong though or this franchise will just fade from memeory quickly.
