HELP! get sound from ps3 using optical

Im using the optical connection to try and get sound to it from my ps3 so i can play motorstorm in dolby digital 5.1 etc ive choosen optical on the ps3 sound settings ticked all the boxes ive picked bitstream on the ps3 ive also gone into the recievers menu and picked ALL for all digital connections also selected the source its saying AUX/DIGI and ive got nothing.Can you get in and out for optical as im thinking my reciever could be optical out and if the ps3 is optical out too then that might be the problem? What would i do then can i get a coaxial to optical lead as the reciver has coaxial in.

Well first of all, you have it set to Bitstream which the PS3 cannot do. You need to set it to Linear PCM, and I recommend setting it to auto. Selecting all the options won't do any good as your reciever may not be able to handle them all. Looking at the manual, the only digital input option is a Coaxial Digital Cable, since the PS3 only has optical digital for audio ouput on the back, that is the reason you aren't hearing any sound. I know you probably spent a little bit for you system, but the only other way to get surround sound from your PS3 may be to get a new reciever with an optical input.
