Allright, I want a new receiver with HDMI, the current one I have doesnt have HDMI.
The Blu-ray movies use LPCM and DD+. From what I know, if a receiver has HDMI in and out you can enjoy LPCM. But the receiver I am interested in has no DD+, it does have 2 HDMI in and 1 HDMI out. I am planning on buying a receiver that can decode DD truHD and DD master HD in the future. But this is after a few years, until the prices for these recievers comes down a little. I am interested in the JVC RX-D411. Link: http://www.jvc.com/product.jsp?model...athId=5&page=1 Well, is this a good choice for a new reciever? I got a 1080i tv, it will pass thru a 1080i signal right? Which receiver do you guys recommend? Which receiver do you guys use for watching BD's? I will use a PS3 to watch BD's, btw. Thanks EDIT: Should've posted this in the 'Home Theater Discussion'. Moderator, can you move this to 'Home Theater Discussion'? Last edited by mainman; 04-08-2007 at 10:40 PM. |

I use a PS3 for BD playback also. Mine is connected through a Denon 2807 which does a very nice job IMHO. I'm by no means a receiver guru so definetly get more opinions, What I like about the Denon is that it's pretty much "seamless" and I don't have to tweak it very much. The downside is that it's pricey. I think list price is about double what the JVC you're looking at costs. The 2807 is a multi-zone receiver, and there is a single-zone model (the 2307?) which is considerably cheaper if you don't need that feature. I didn't need multi-zone myself, but I got a very good price on the 2807 because I bought it at the same time that I purchased my 55" plasma, and my speakers. That left a lot of wiggle room on the price of the AVR. The store didn't have the single-zone model when I bought all my stuff.
I know that Denon receivers will very soon be HDMI 1.3 and that migt be something you want to wait on if possible, even though HDMI 1.3 isn't needed right now. If the prices remain the same, you might as well get 1.3 if you can wait for it in my opinion. To answer one of your other questions, my plasma is a 1080i also, and I get 1080i from my cable box, my upconvert-dvd, and also from the PS3. I just wish that I had one more HDMI input on the AVR. My cable box is currently using component input and the AVR passes the signal back out through HDMI. |

I'm in the same situation and had about decided on the Yamaha V661 when I heard about Sony's new line just coming out. The one I'm interested in is the Sdrg-710 which lists for $299.00. The big question is whether it will process PCM over HDMI or just does a pass through. I talked with one of the reps over at Magnolia and he looked up the specs and said it seemed to him that it would. If this is the case, any PS3 owner can let the PS3 do the decoding and then pass the PCM over HDMI to the receiver. This will be the cheapest way for PS3 owners to get lossless audio.
The only potential problem is if the PS3 never does DTSHD-MA. I just saw a post in the insiders thread from one of the insiders who indicated that this processing is pretty intense to do in software and the PS3 might not be able to do it. If that turns out to be true, the 710 won't give you lossless for any title that has DTSHD-MA without the LPCM. |

I've had JVC 702B and eventually gave it to my friend because of the HDMI problems, he's using component so it was ok for him.
Frankly I was very disappointed with JVC tech support. Bottomline was that they(JVC) weren't responsible for any HDMI handshake problems according to them. That's after they made me to send the thing 3 times back and forth, twice @ my cost. It was "other" maker's fault that the receiver couldn't handle the signal. JVC was built according to spec and if any device couldn't connect ot JVC that that device was not according to the spec. Even though other receivers and my TV handled the same inputs perfectly. AFAIK 411 has the same chipset. So, if you need HDMI I'd stay away from those JVCs. |

BTW, the receiver must have at least 1 HDMI input and 1 HDMI output. So if it doesnt have HDMI out, its not worth buying, Maybe that is why the Sony is so cheap? Last edited by mainman; 04-09-2007 at 01:23 PM. |

http://www.jr.com/JRProductPage.process?Product=4163672 Again, the real question is whether it can handle audio over HDMI or whether it's just a pass through. I should be able to confirm this in a day or so. The other thing that affects this and any other receiver that doesn't decode Master Audio is whether the PS3 will ever be able to decode it. If the PS3 is never able to do it, you won't get lossless on titles where DTSHD-MA is the only lossless track. |

I am going to wait for recievers that are able to decode DTS HD MA and Dolby TrueHD. There is one planned for august, so I think the other companies wont be far behind with releasing new receivers. |

That would be the smart move. If I knew the prices would be in the sub $500 range I would wait as well. I just suspect these will be upwards of $700 and that's more than I want to spend at the moment.
