Default PS4 more anticipated than iPhone5, Galaxy S4, and all other devices

http://www.thenewstribe.com/2013/04/...ets-in-demand/

Quote:
Sonys upcoming gaming console or in other words the Future of Gaming has made gadget lovers to fall in love with it.

A recent research by a leading gadgets retail chain has quoted that over 900 thousands of its users have signed up to receive information about PS4.

GameStop, a leading retain chain, says one of its internal consumer research survey shows a strong interest of consumers in the Sonys most anticipated gaming console.

The items which were beaten by PS4 include smartphones, portable gaming devices, tablets, laptops, smart TVs and so many other things.

Based on the survey of loyal customers of GameStop, 34% of them expect to get a PlayStation 4 in the next twelve month. Moreover, nearly 900 thousand of GameStop clients signed up to receive information about the PS4, says the survey report.

So much demand has led the bosses of GameStop to reach the conclusion that Sony is unlikely to meet the expected demand from the game lovers in the first stage.

Tony Bartel, GameStop president went on saying Although we have been given no official numbers by Sony, we do believe that demand will far outpace the supply of this product during the launch window.

Another research firm has estimated that Sony is likely to ship over 2.5 million consoles in 2013 allover the world.

Let's see what the price is, before we guess what the demand will be...and a real announcement of what MS has to offer. I do not doubt the preliminary interest, though.

Makes sense for a GameStop funded study. Chances are a GameStop customer's Playstation is a lot older than their tablet or smartphone. And, by virtue of being a GameStop customer, they play video games.

Once the prices are announced. And, MS shows off the X3. That figure will change.

What it reflects is that gamers (GameStop customers) are not anticipating the next best mobile or alternative gaming device, they are are anticipating the next best gaming console. I. e., mobile gaming on phones, tablets, etc., is not an imminent threat to console gaming.

Been saying this for a long time. I never understood the idea that mobile and tablet gaming is some kind of imminent threat to consolse. It's two COMPLETELY different markets! No one buys consoles and 50" plasmas to play Angry Birds and Temple Run! It's no more of a threat to consoles than the Gameboy, DS, or PSP was. Everyone is citing the increase in tablet sales over the last couple of years and the drop in console sales in the video game industry. Yet no one seems to consider the following...

1.) Between the Wii, PS3,and 360 around 250 MILLION consoles have been sold this generation! That's the most total consoles sold EVER in any generation! How many tablets have been sold??

2.) Home consoles go in cycles! This generation has run almost 3 years beyond the normal cycle of console generations and the truth is, consoles from this generation have reached critical mass. The market is saturated and pretty much everyone that wants a console HAS one!

If you ask me, tablet panic is exactly why Nintendo thought it was a good idea to design that ridiculous controller/tablet for the Wii U that does not perform particularly well as a controller OR a tablet!

Talking about the specs already leaked, and if they hold true, I doubt that the figure would change actually.

Now, when the -prices- will be revealed, it might be a different story, but we'll see. As of now, many less educated (on hardware and costs) gamers probably imagine the beast that is a 1.8TFlop PS4 with 8Gb DDR5 at $299, and we all know it's not going to happen.

I would love your crystal ball. The PS4 is not launching a year late and the price won't be $599. MS advantages from last gen are gone. I expect that figure to be higher along with the 720 since many people will be buying both.

If I've learned anything as a gamer it's that you cannot predict a consoles next generation success based on current gen success. At the end of the PS2 era, the world was basically Sony's oyster! They OWNED the market and everyone assumed they would own this generation. Then Sony basically wrote the book "How to **** Up a System Launch In as Many Ways Possible" and allowed Nintendo and Microsoft to steal away a huuuuuge chunk of their market share!

I'm not banking on anything next gen because there's always too many variables that no one can see.

Ironically, I'd say if they're a threat to anything, it's handheld gaming that's taking the biggest hit from the mobile market.

We don't know what each consoles pro's and con's will in comparison to each other.

The demographics for the two consoles userbase isn't 100% the same either. PS3 offers far more bang for the buck where as the 360 has pay walls to use things like Youtube and Netflix (ever after already paying for the subscription). As well as charging to play games online. Of course next gen that might not be the case any more, though I doubt MS will suddenly go free considering all the people who waste money on Live. I just hope Sony continues to offer the best experience and value.

I find it funny that some try and ridicule this and pretend there must be some bias to it. The way I see it all the other categories are simple replacements (i.e. to use the iphone 5 used in the title all the crazed Apple fan boys most likely already upgraded to it, everyone else will just replace the phone when it needs replacing, so unless their phone brakes (which can't be planned) or the contract is up within the next year (which would show up on such a poll) I can believe that roughly 20% don't get a new phone every year and there is nothing that has been announced that is a big deal for the next 12 months.

yeah it'd be pretty silly to think there would be any bias in a poll taken by a game retail store only polling people who signed up for their membership card. there's just no way anyone would expect a brand new console to be at the top of that list!

It is not necessarily bias. It is just a selected sample, which is disclosed. You need to see the questions to see if it is biased. It is a good sized sample of real gamers. It shows something that we all assumed but never saw support for. Fear of losing serious gaming market share to iPhone is made up by fake journalists who know not of what they write about.

Don't forget the 900K that signed up asking for PS4 pre-order info.

Yes it is dumb, do you think people that play games on consoles don't use smart phones? don't use tablets and computers?.... Yes they might not have the old person that is still watching his TV from the 80's but that person will most likely not buy any of those devices. There is no reasonable reason why a gamestop member would look more or less forward to PS4 then someone that does not shop there or why they would look forward any more or less for any of the other devices on the list.
