You would think that after As Good As It Gets and Philadelphia, I wouldn't be surprised with what Sony licenses to Twilight Time, but alas, Sleepless In Seattle managed to do it...

I guess so. I hope that they don't start sending Frank Capra's films to TT. That would be unforgivable.

At this point I would want this to happen. There are so many titles I can't believe I'm still waiting for this late in the game. The Philadelphia Story, Mr Smith goes to Washington, Arsenic and Old Lace, His Girl Friday, The Big Sleep, To Have and Have not, Key Largo etc etc. The list goes on and on. I guess there is a lack of appreciation for older movies. I keep seeing so many horrible movies get releases and even obscure movies that aren't that memorable ( Olive films). Meanwhile so many great titles are just ignored. /insanerant

At least someone would be releasing them, I would not be too worried as well I doubt that even at 300 limited releases I don't see that they would sell out quickly. In general people are looking for the big blockbusters and the new releases. I doubt something like Frank Capra would not hold a lot of interest for 80-90% of people buying movies

Some of us don't want to pay $30 for each of those. Plus, those are all widely considered to be classics and have a much larger market than TT can cater to. The Big Sleep and the other Bogey and Bacall movies are with Warner. Capra I think is well-known enough that Sony may see it fit to release a few themselves. If not that, send them to Shout/Mill Creek/ whoever else there is. Capra's films are so wonderful and need reach an audience FAR larger than 3,000. If you think TT would want them for cash-cow releases, think about this: theres a HUGE chance that the isolated score tracks for those titles don't exist. Even though they did release Cover Girl with no isolated score, that release turned out poorly and didn't sell well. I see TT going for horror or sci-fi titles or newer titles with isolated scores and larger audiences. Perhaps TCM will acquire licensing to issue the Sony Capra titles on BD. You never know...

I would pay $50 for some of Capra's movies, he is in my top five directors of all time, Capra, Kurosawa, Ozu, Eisenstein, Lean

I agree I would love to see a lot of those films released at a good price, but at this point I'd rather pay $30.00 then not get them at all.

I'd much rather Olive films get some of these, but beggars can't be choosers.Arsenic and Old Lace is a favorite of mine.

Not Capri, but I'm still amazed The Big Sleep hasn't seen a release.

And, they do reach an audience "FAR larger" than that. Even if the films are limited to 3000 Blu-rays. These films are--or have been--available on numerous other formats: DVD, VHS, LD, streaming, broadcast, downloads, etc. On this forum, people seem to constantly overstate the reach and market saturation of Blu-ray. Bottom line is there may only be 3000 unit limit on a given film, on Blu-ray, but the overall availability of the film is far from limited to that. The vast majority of people are more than happy with watching films on DVD or downloaded to their computer or the old-fashioned way--broadcast quality on their television sets.

Good point.

Out of today's announcement, I'm excited about Body Double at about the same level as I was for Enemy Mine ... which is a bit ... but not as excited as I was when Journey To The Center Of The Earth was first announced. I think it has a lot to do with which films a person grows up with, to some degree.

Wow....just wow. I mean really? Sony couldn't just release this themselves? Bastards....I was looking forward to getting this one day but not at that price point.

Christine was different because I am a horror fan but common TT....

Some of those titles are owned by Warner but I absolutely LOVE your list and Id want them all in HD. With so many great titles already coming out this year, I really dont mind waiting...I bought close to 50 movies in the first 3 months of this year..at least April there are but 5 titles Im getting and May 3 so far - the WB Gangsters set , The Burning from Scream Factory and Leave Her to Heaven from TT...
And Scream has more genre titles Im getting each month...

I am with you Banned User...it certainly is a shame that these classic films are getting ignored....The Big Sleep is definitely a shocker as is the other title's you mentioned. Especially too as seeing that there are really good HD transfers to many of them out there, for example(His Girl Friday, Mr. Smith, Philadelphia Story, To Have and Have not, It Happened One Night). Out of The Past has a great HD transfer that I am hoping they release on Blu-ray soon as well. It is odd that some of these more lesser known classics are being released first and I certainly hope studio's aren't using these more obscure films sales statistics as any sort of reference.

Sony needs to show some love for its catalog. *that* is my point. They've really been half-assing their blu-rays lately (with exception of Lawrence of Arabia). If TT picked up the Capras then I'd get them in a heartbeat, but I'd just hate paying for them. Unless you're talking about Mr. Smith Goes to Washington, which I'd pay $100 for if I had to because it's one of my all time favorites. I agree with you on The Big Sleep. We NEED more Humphrey Bogart on blu-ray and Warner has been pretty lazy about releasing their mongo catalog of classics. They need to hurry it up (without sacrificing quality, of course, like Olive Films does)!

I agree with you on the studios releasing less-classic titles first. They had better not be judging by those numbers. The overall number of classic releases on blu-ray has been very disappointing over the past few years.

Back to Twilight Time. What newer title do you think Sony will send them next?

I wouldn't get my hopes up on quality though, given that a recent Fox title starting Jennifer Jones, The Song of Bernadette, was sourced from a DVD era master. Leon Shamroy's CinemaScope photography was nominated for an Oscar and Alfred Newman's score won the Oscar that year (undeservingly in my opinion; it's irritatingly repetitious and is easily bested by Hugo Friedhofer's score for The Rains of Ranchipur and Bernard Herrmann's score for Prince of Players.) By the way, when will we be getting Prince of Players, Twilight Time?
The US arm of Sony appears to be yet their international arm appears more than comfortable in releasing these on Blu-ray themselves.

I agree. I find that I am looking for the films I grew up with. JTTCOTE, The Blob, The Day the Earth Stood Still and others like them. It is like my life has come full circle. It is hard to explain, but I feel I have a connection to these films.

I would think Sleepless in Seattle would sell out quickly (IMO). It was a LOT more popular than As Good As It Gets. It's always referred to as a great romance/comedy movie, but I never hear anything about AGAIG (other than TT releasing it, lol).

You forget that, a lot of people aren't willing to pay $30 for it. It's worth it for my wife, it's one of her favorite movies.
