Seriously though, I haven't seen the show since it ended. Really looking forward to the film.

OK this is what concerns me. If you funded you get free or discounted product. Why should I pay them royalties for your financial backing.

I understand being a fan but this is like me paying Pink Floyd to make a new album then buy it.

I do admire you loyalty to the product but you'd be paying twice.

We're not paying royalties for a VM movie. Our money is essentially being the film's budget. Since the show is so niche, WB was unwilling to provide any money for a film to be made. So in backing the film, fans not only get a film made but also get the film for free (as blus/digital downloaded will be sent to backers).

Paying royalties (in this case) is if you want to make something that uses the VM brand and thus have to pay WB to use the VM content. A totally different scenario.

Plus, it's quite different than donating money to help Pink Floyd fund an album. Pink Floyd is a brand that is worth millions and will bring in millions and wouldn't even need to have to ask for funds.

Well this is going to be done. The movie films this summer.

And basically you're just pre-buying merchandise. This is stuff I'd want anyway. I donated $100 and for that will get a digital copy of the film within a couple days of the film's release, Veronica Mars stickers, a t-shirt, poster, script, a copy of the Blu-ray/DVD combo when it's released, and of course the greatest prize of all, a Veronica Mars movie. I find it silly people complain about this and say we could be donating to charities and such. If this were getting a wide theatrical release I would likely see it four times. If I love a movie I usually go see it theatrically 3-4 times. Then I'd buy it right away on Blu-ray. I won't have that opportunity to see it theatrically as it would never open here so really I'm just using that money I'd be spending on it anyway to get all of this other stuff. I personally think this is awesome and it can be used to fund other niche projects that studios wouldn't want to make because they're too much of a risk. This lets the fans decide what they want to see. I desperately wanted this movie to happen. Have ever since the show ended. And I couldn't be happier it finally is.

I agree with you. You got what you wanted and had no problem paying for the exclusivities. THAT IS GREAT!

You all saw the two shirt designs, right? Which do you prefer? On the one hand, I think it's neat to have Veronica herself on a shirt. But as a35 year old I would likely get wired looks wearing it. At my age only sports shirts are ok for having front images. On the other hand I like the image on the darker shirt but am not crazy on the back image and I don' think others will get the date. But it is also a good reminder of taking part in this project. So I guess that will likely be the one to get. Which one will you get if you are getting a shirt?

I hate the second shirt. It's hideous.

and yes, pics of Kristen Bell get me "wired" too

I'm picking the first shirt. Second design is "clever" but ugly, IMO.

I think I may be changing my mind. Looked at it again and I keep thinking the blinds are a stand in for jail bars. I am still not crazy about front images but I think I am shifting to the first image.

Other than the people who choose to buy both, I'm not sure why anyone would want the second shirt. The first one is SO much better in my opinion. Of course, I know if I ask for L, they will run small and if I ask for XL they will run big.

I'm most surprised by just how happy Kristen Bell seems to be by all of this. While she hasn't really made a bunch of good movies since VM, she's certainly made a lot of money. On top of that she just had a baby and she seems genuinely thrilled to be getting the chance to make this film in a few months. Makes it even better that I could help her with my donation to the cause.

I'll be really disappointed if this isn't playing anywhere near my hometown. I live in a pretty big metro area, so if it doesn't make it into a theater near me, the release will be VERY limited and blow a true opportunity to see how well this project can actually work in drawing an audience into theaters. I hope WB takes a chance now that they see how much money was raised and they'd kind of be stupid not to risk a lit bit more, because this story is going to get a lot of free attention again when they film is being prepared for release.

Why not use the that attention and open the film in more theaters?

Freaks and Geeks and Gilmore Girls next??

Yeah, I hear ya. I'm going to order a large though since XL is usually always too big for me, but L can be too snug at times.

Honestly, I think it's pretty amazing Bell is going to be filming this movie so soon when she JUST had a baby. I mean, I honestly wouldn't blame her for not wanting to jump into this so soon. But I guess it's the only time the actors and everyone would be free. She's a real friggin' trooper for doing this. It's clearly a labor (ha) of love and I give her major credit for wanting to do this.

I'd throw $100 at a Gilmore Girls movie. That is my #1 show, Veronica Mars is my #2. Though to be honest I don't even think they'd need to do a Kickstarter for a Gilmore Girls movie. The show was fairly successful, especially over the years through repeats. And if they could get McCarthy on board, who has become a big name now, making a movie wouldn't even be a huge risk. Freaks & Geeks was amazing but I don't know how a movie would/could work. Would it be with the characters as adults? And even then I wouldn't see that working very well. They'd be better off leaving it alone. At least we got one perfect season. I wish it could have continued on, but there was also the chance of it going downhill if it did. I'd still rather have taken that chance though. Still, I don't see them doing a movie for that. Just not sure how they could.

Apparently they're going to release the movie in areas that had the most donations first. I think maybe they should try the "demand it" marketing tool like Paranormal Activity. Obviously this would be on a smaller scale but it would be good to know which areas this would do best in. I just hope it does well when it opens in limited release. Maybe then it can expand more. I wish it were going to be a wide release and I could see it a bunch of times, but I'm just happy we're even getting a movie.

Well, I can always wish for more Lindsay Weir and the rest of the gang. It might not work, but as big of stars some of the cast has become, the cool thing is that I have no doubt they'd all do it for peanuts if Apatow wanted it to happen. Another great cast that knows where it all started for them and how high quality it was.

Lauren Graham gave money to the VM movie and said she'd like to see a GG movie but it would have to come from Amy Sherman-Palladino. She doesn't seem to be as caring about her fans as Rob Thomas or even Apatow. I always liked MM but never would have guessed Sookie would be the biggest star to come out of that show. And MM wasn't even the Sookie from the first pilot.

I might shoot a message to Rob Thomas about the shirts. I want to wear mine with pride and so I don't want it to be tight or to be a dress. I'm about the same build as Logan, so maybe he'll let us know what size Jason was wearing in the pictures as a reference point.

The thing is one reason she might not be as eager is GG lasted 7 whole seasons. Makes sense she'd be a little tired of playing the character. I think she just needed some distance between the show and a possible movie. VM was canceled way too soon and only lasted 3. Rob and Kristen might not be as interested in doing a movie had it lasted a long time.

Warner Bros. Digital is running website ads congratulating Rob Thomas and Kristen Bell for their successful Kickstarter campaign.

I'd sooo support it, but I honestly don't find one necessary..at least nowhere near as much as this series. Maybe it's just me, but I love the finale.

Yeah, I don't find it as necessary as this either despite GG being my favorite show. I'd still love to see one though, but am not as desperate for one.

It's tied for my favorite too

I just don't see anywhere else for it to go. Plus I would hate it being ruined by having one. I finished my most recent re-watch a few weeks ago and I really appreciated the finale this time, might be one of my favorite episodes (really hard picking out favorites when it comes to that show). The last 15 or so minutes are a perfect ending to me.
