Onkyo 605 - Blu-ray Forum

How do I get the TRUE HD and DOLBY DIGITAL and everything else to display on the receiver? Seems like I can only do so many, I am using multi-channel and it only shows multi-channel on the receiver nothing else...please help!

you have to set your player to bitstream

So no pcm or whatever it's called? Chage the setting on the blu-ray player to bitstream?

You can bitstream the core track. The PS3 has to internally decode the TrueHD track and send out over Linear PCM. It will show up on you receiver as 'Multi-channel'.

Which Panasonic BD player do you have? The DMP-BD10 doesn't bitstream TrueHD or DTS-HD MA. The 30 does.

When you say you have it connected in Multi-channel, are you saying the RCA Multi-channels inputs on the back? as in this?

If that's the case then you can only transmit what the player can decode internally. You would need HDMI (to your 605) to bitstream TrueHD and DTSHD-MA. Dolby Digital and DTS can be also bitstreamed over Optical.

Yes, that is correct. Everyone said the multi-channel connection is the best way to go for loss-less sound...So am I good even though it only says multi-channel and not dts or dolbyHD, or MSTR?

The BD30 can only bitstream TrueHD and DTSHD-MA out to a receiver. The good news is that you have a 605 and a few changes will get you good to go.

BD30 > HDMI > 605
as cembros said earlier change your settings to bitsream.

Then the 605 will do all decoding for you and you'll be all set. Hit up monoprice.com for cheap HDMI cables if you don't have one.

Do NOT send bitstreamed DTS HD Master signals to your receiver. There is a defective DTS Decoder in Onkyo, Yamaha and Pioneer receivers. See the post in the general discussion thread. If you send bitstreamed DTS HD Master data to the receiver, the defective decoder can cause an EXTREMELY loud pop thru your speakers. The volume of the pop is loud enuff to blow out your speakers.

If this is true then Onkyo needs to do a recall. I have been on their website and I have seen nothing on this does anyone have verification of this?

I was just on their web site and they mention a firmware update but also state that all recievers currently out on the market should already have this update. Is this a case of early adopters having a defective system or is their still a problem?

Everything I've read are a few isolated incidents. Kjack today has said he'd pass the info on to Onkyo. It's certainly not at epidemic levels where every unit is affected. It's an owners choice if they want to check to see if they have the issue or not. I wouldn't advocate one way or the other.

We don't know if certain build dates are affected... It's wait and see at this point.

Yea, this seems like an early model issue simular to the one that they had to do firmware updates to get the DTS or TrueHD lights working (i forget what it was).

If you have a newer model, I wouldnt worry. Ive watched some of the movies on the list bitstreamed and had no issues with this "Popping".

If you've ever done the "soft reset" on your BD-30 (Pushing the 2 buttons on the face of the actual unit to default it to get video working again) Your BD-30 will NOT output TrueHD until you go through the fix that was found.

Okay, when I got home from work last night I changed the settings to bitstream instead of pcm, I turned the secondary off and the pcm downconverson off. Now what setting for sp cal do I use? Right now all speakers are on 6+ and the sub is 12+. Please let me know, everything seems to sound way better before I did the mic. setup now it seems to be a little off in bass.... By the way, I am using multi-channel from blu-ray to receiver.

Does your 605 properly show DTS-HD MA and TrueHD now when trying to play Blu-Ray's with that audio track turned on? If yes, thats all the help I can really give. If no, read this thread (Specifically posts #27 and #30)to see if it is the culprit.

Also make sure you are using a HDMI v1.3 rated cable from the BD-30 to the 605 (most newer HDMI are 1.3 compliant, older ones didnt bother to give this info so on rare occasions you might get one that cant handle the bandwidth of the bitstream)

Your speaker settings depend on your room size, viewing distance, number of speakers ect. I can only reccomend running the 605's Auto Speaker Calibration (Audyssey 2EQ) if you have the mic to do so. That is really your best bet.

From BD30, HDMI to a receiver is the only way to get TrueHD and DTSHD-MA. IT can transmit PCM as lossless though.

BD30 > HDMI > Receiver (set to bitstream = lossless)
Receiver > HDMI > tv

If the BD30 can do, which I don't know if it can or not, you could go
BD30 > Component > TV
