Wal-Mart is open too, those evil greedy people.

Sam Goody, Suncoast, Fye and any other trans-world owned store is closed though...

The one place I wanted to go to today also..

i think the lesson OP will learn is that it pays to do a little research before you spend your money , sales people have their own interests at yours.

WTF? Really? Must be managed by some Easter zealots. We live in a small suburb outside of Nashville (Bible Belt) and most retail stores were open today until 7 PM, or opened at noon and stayed open until 9. (Except for our local McDonalds, which had a big freaking painted mural on their window with 'He is RISEN!' and a nativity scene... McJesus.)

Off-Topic (how fitting) but working a retail location to pay for my college expenses back in the day (not your best retail type of location either, got held up at gunpoint 3 times......... lucky me eh?) I am so freakin' tired of the

"well all the money I spend in here" argument....

because you know what??? there are always people who spend 10 times there than you, that don't EXPECT special treatment.

There.... END RANT for me......

They had no problems pushing hd players last year on people but now wont help out.
Do you think it is worth elevating this to a store mgr or best buy corporate??

Sorry for the rant but this really pees me off!

go to diff best buy, return them with NO RECEIPT, tell them you mistakingly bought these thinking they could play in your DVD PLAYER ... get your gift card and be done with it. ... Sometimes what throws them off is the qty, you could just return them 2 and then 3 ... never the less your still going to get 30% the sticker price you paid since that is their going rate right now.

Funny enough I just got an email from best buy... They said I bought an HDDVD player from them? (I did buy one from wal-mart) and that they will be sending me a gift card!

Best Buy RAWKS!

p.s. it did say if you have any HD DVD players or HD DVD movies you can trade them in for gift cards at this website.

Quote:
Our records show that you purchased an HD DVD player from Best Buy™.

Recently, Toshiba announced that they will no longer produce HD DVD players, and movie studios decided they will no longer release new movies in HD DVD.

At Best Buy, we are dedicated to making sure you always have the right technology for you. That is why we will be mailing you a Best Buy™ gift card in the upcoming weeks. If you haven't received your gift card by May 1, please call us at 1-888-BEST BUY (1-888-237-8289).

If you are interested in trading in your HD DVD player and HD DVDs, check out our technology trade-in service at BestBuyTradeIn.com where we will accept HD DVD hardware and software in exchange for a Best Buy gift card based on its market value.

We truly appreciate you as a customer. If you have further questions, please go to BestBuy.com/hddvd.

What movies are they? I'm still picking up HD DVD's for really cheap. I won't pay more than $10 for them though.

I won't budge on return policies, personally. I told a customer just the other day that there was no way I was going to go against a corporate-mandated return policy just because she didn't buy the service plan. I added that the audacity that she was somehow more important than the entirety of the Best Buy customer-base was insulting and narcissistic.

Unfortunitely, BB is trying to rid themselves of HD-DUD's anyway so you might not get much store credit to begin with. Are those the 5 free movies? If they are then try ebay/craigslist to try to cash in. If not, show your credit card reciept that will help.

A shining beacon of hope in the future of retail inspired entitlement.

"If you didn't find the number for Aldis, why do I have to pay for the call?"

"Would you rather pay for everyone eles's prank calls?"

Here's the nice fun secret, someone has to pay for it.

Well it goes back to BB getting away from HDDVD, they probably would not even take it back if it was still under 30 days without a recipt unless you can prove it. I know they let me trade my laptop after 30 days, but it took some negotiations for it to work. So your milage may vary..

And as stated before me, caveat emptor. Best of luck.

Best Buy is repeatedly rated terrible as far as customer service, and I'm sure their ass is still red after a few years of MSN racketeering charges, Geek Squad privacy issues (they were stealing your porn and banking info) resulting in mass firings, and having to answer to a few states for their "fake" intranet website designed to confuse consumers with higher prices.

Don't shop there unless you're buying one of their loss leaders and costing them money. Never count on them to help you out.

I always thought the kiosks they were talking about were for employees to check stock in store. *shrug* Maybe they had different kiosks then the ones at the store I go to.

The kiosks are used for that purpose, but this is something a little different. Connecticut is suing them because they misrepresented the company intranet as Bestbuy.com, when it was an exact copy of BestBuy.com that featured in-store pricing as opposed to the public website. That way consumers could not see online deals or pricing when visiting the kiosk in the store, yet they were led to believe that they were using BestBuy.com.

The computers did reflect in-store prices, rather than online. That was so the customer could look up prices if there was no tag, like Target has those little scanning machines all over the place. It was a convenience for when there was no associate to scan a barcode.
Now there is a little banner reflecting that the kiosk shows in-store prices. Sometimes the prices are better in-store, other times online. It depends on the sale. We price match in-store either way and can look up dot com prices just the same as when we price match competitors.

that deal from bestbuytradein.com sucks. I selected Xbox 360 hd dvd player to return, and it asks you how many HD DVDs you would be trading in also, here is what it gave me.

Trade-In Estimate

Microsoft 9Z5-00013 (360HD) for XBOX Receiver
CONDITION: GOOD
REMOTE CONTROL: INCLUDED
POWER CORD(S): INCLUDED
INSTRUCTION MANUAL: INCLUDED
HD-DVD MOVIES INCLUDED: 41 to 50
Estimated Trade-in Value:
(includes a Prepaid shipping label)
$98.10

Not even $100 for a player and 50 movies? LOL Id rather throw them at passerby then get $1 each.
