Yeah, we'll have to see how that materializes.

So, is it coincidence that they will release in May and the game is May's feature in EGM?

April, for me, is such a junk month. No must-own games or BLUs. Let's get to May. I'll be dropping the cash for sure that month.

But, it doesn't make logical sense why May's issue would be out, so I'm thinking this is just a collective rumor scam.

London, March 28th 2008 - SOCOM: Confrontation™ brings the highly decorated SOCOM franchise to PLAYSTATION®3 (PS3™). Focused exclusively on on-line play and powered by PLAYSTATION®Network, SOCOM: Confrontation delivers the contemporary combat experience that the SOCOM series is known for.

SOCOM: Confrontation allows players to freely associate, form teams and compete in up to 32 player battles and massive player tournaments. Customize your character and equip him from a selection of weapons. Recruit others, or be recruited, into an elite unit formed from free agents or friends you have served with before. Whether you are a Squad leader, or a soldier taking orders, everyone has a part to play. This is the chance for your team to confront the best soldiers the world has to offer and prove your superiority.

Featuring some of the most highly trained Special Forces regiments in the world, SOCOM: Confrontation is, like all true military scenarios, all about strategy and teamwork. Reward your troops not only when they are brave and fearless but when they use intelligence and work as a team. Trawl the world for the best soldiers to strengthen your team as you lead your men against other highly skilled outfits.

Country Name (abbreviation) Name in full
USA SEALs US Navy SEALs
UK SAS Special Air Service
France 1er RPIM 1er Régiment de Parachutistes d’Infanterie de Marine
Spain UOE Unidad de Operaciones Especiales
Germany KSK Kommando Spezialkräfte

SOCOM Confrontation’s online offering on PLAYSTATION Network is supported by SOCOM.com - which allows you to manage your team online away from your PS3 – and will be backed by regular downloads from PLAYSTATION Network, including new Special Forces characters weapons and maps.

Competition is also a major factor in SOCOM Confrontation and many tournaments are available for you to show off your clan’s military knowledge and prowess. Choose from pre-set tournaments tailored to your schedule; these run on weekdays and weekends and are split on a regional and global basis.

Key features that make SOCOM Confrontation such a great online game include:
  • Intense online combat experience with up to 32 players delivered in High Definition
  • 7 highly detailed maps
  • New engine built for PS3 with advanced physics, lighting and ballistics including penetration modelling
  • Choice of playing as one of five special forces units: United States Navy SEALs, Special Air Service (SAS, United Kingdom), Kommando Spezialkräfte (KSK, Germany), Unidad de Operaciones Especiales (UOE, Spain), 1er Régiment de Parachutistes d’Infanterie de Marine (1er RPIMa, France)
  • Unrivalled Community Features with increased clan & ladder support
  • Tournaments available at the regional, national and global levels
  • Advanced player matching enable players to form teams with their friends and easily join an online game

SOCOM Confrontation Marching Out on September 16

New SOCOM website launching as well.
By Philip Kollar, 03/26/2008

We've brought you several big stories on SOCOM Confrontation in the past month, but today Sony passed on one more important piece of information: a release date. The latest iteration of the popular online shooter franchise will be arriving on September 16.

To celebrate this news, tomorrow Sony will be launching SOCOM.com, an online community site devoted to the game. Pre-release, the site will provide regular news updates as well as a place for fans to get together. Once the game has launched, gamers will discover full integration with the website, including near real-time stat tracking, clan management tools, and more.

You can check out 1UP's most recent online preview of SOCOM from the beginning of the year, but if you want a more up-to-date and in-depth look at the game, you'll want to pick up the May issue of EGM -- the one with the colorful SOCOM cover below. Check it out on newsstands next week or in your mailbox any day now if you're a subscriber. EDIT: And enjoy the new exclusive screenshot above!

If that's the case, I don't think we'll be seeing Killzone that month as well. I can't imagine them trying to release 2 of their shooters in the same month.

I'll get excited when it's Sept 16 and the game actually is on the shelf.

Delays, delays.

Online only? Jee, no thanks. I was momentarily excited by the news, given how cool the PSP SOCOM games are.

I used to play a reasonable amount of online games (AA:O and BF1942). America's army was sweet (and good lot of rules so you had to behave) but BF 1942 was just full of smacktards. My PC slipped out of spec for AA:O to I just stopped playing online games. I'm interested in trying to get back at some stage with my PS3, but have no games I'm interested in playing online yet. BF Bad Company I was thinking of, but I'm not too impressed with EA's behaviour.

Well this going to be like Warhawk. You could download it or buy the hard copy. Being online only, I think this game would be priced around $40.

I agree.

If it's $60 and online only, I'll pass.

$40 FTW!

$39 clams for the download version and *rumor* Blu-Ray with Sony bluetooth head set for $59. Tis only rumor and speculation at this point. We'll prolly know more after the EGM spread.

That would be nice. I don't need a headset.

I'd like a BLU copy for $40 though. But, a download is better than nothing.
