And there is a pre-existing in-print SE with perfectly good extras. What is the source for this 'rumor'? I have a feeling it originates with pedromc69.

My point exactly. What's wrong with the current release?

I don't think it would. I believe this film (along with the likes of Friday the 13th Part 3D and Jaws 3D amongst others) would've been presented with the use of polarized filters, not anaglyphic red/cyan colored filters. The theatrical experience would likely be better replicated on an MVC encoded disc.

At the end of the day, wouldn't standard 3D be able to provide the intended effect better than anaglyh even if the latter was used at the time of release? It was a limitation of the time, but today we've moved beyond it, and can properly replicate the intended effect.

I'd think so. At the very least, you'd lose the color distortion.

Exactly what I thought. MGM's release is quite good, and as much as I'd love for Scream to release all the classic horror films based on their work so far, there really isn't much they could add to it.

Hell I'm pretty sure Cliff even said in this thread that Universal "has plans for Chucky" this year...

Certainly not. Amityville 3D was filmed using the same system as Jaws 3D and Friday the 13th 3D, that is, the polarized method (albeit over/under, rather than dual strip). When audiences went to see it at the theater, they did so using the same glasses we use today, not the red/green sort.

In fact, barely any 3D films from either the 50s or 80s period were shot using the Anaglyph method. The only major one I can think of is Freddy's Dead.

For further info visit http://www.3dfilmarchive.com/

Specifically the 3D myths section.

He did - I'm assuming we'll see 2 and 3 as part of their October slate this year.

I hope so. With the new one coming out in October, it would be nice if they released a box set with all the sequels.

Thumbs up

Yes, I recall Cliff saying Universal has Chucky plans this year but lets face it Shout has enough titles from all the eras to keep us happy. Im sure MGM has a huge dent in their library by now

Aside from the direct to video sequel, what does he mean Universal has plans for Chucky? What are they doing?
