I really don't want to rebuy everything. I wish would the upgrades would hold off longer.

What I'll be doing is buying some Vortex non-ECO cases and having these Blu-ray Superbit releases as the second disc for what I already own.

Crap Sony transfers which could benefit from this.

Code:
10 Things I hate About You
Cliffhanger
The Fifth Element
LEON
The Messenger: Joan of Arc
Actually the majority of their releases which use MPEG2, is denoised and degrained with tons of DNR and EE. Make it around $15 each title. Maybe even a DAS BOOT TV Mini-series version spread over 2-Discs? There's no reason for me to buy DVD any longer. Except Doctor Who Classic imported from Amazon UK but that's another thread.

I got GHOSTBUSTERS for free with the original slipcover because Amazon botched the order originally so the 4K release is where I'm actually spending money on it. Not bad. Glory I think I got for $13. Again for space saving reasons I'm just going to have the 4K Superbit as the second discs.

So are there any meaningful titles Sony could actually give a worthwhile overhaul to? The Luc Besson films but NIKITA looks great already. Maybe a triple feature pack of The Dark Crystal, Labyrinth and Mirror Mask? I'd rather see far longer cuts of films in this 4K line split over 2 Discs which I'm hoping Lawrence of Arabia would get.

Of the "4K Line" I only ordered Glory and Angels & Demons, so I can let you know tomorrow when they arrive.
A total shame they couldn't include the extras, but I had to get a small sampling of this line just satisfy my curiosity.

Where was this stated? I find that hard to believe that they advertise expanded color and xvycc support on the back of the packaging and it ended up not being true...

Yeah I know, I was just giving the ballpark to make things simple. I think those specs that you posted relates to recordable blu ray disc's

No, they are the specs for every BD whether they are factory pressed discs or BD-Rs. As he said a 25 maxes out at 23.2 and a 50 maxes out at 46.5.

Yeah sure, is that using a base-2 system or a base-10 system?

Yes, but that's Ghosbusters, an analog film. The new disc is a brand new transfer, but Angels and Demons will be the same transfer, because the full quality, color, and artistic intent were completely locked in to the digital master created during the film's post-production. Any difference would essentially be down to bitrate (which is reasonably healthy on the original disc), this xvYCC color thing, and maybe some minor difference if they use a different scaling algorithm.

I'm not really sure a second re-do of Fifth Element would be worth it. The first re-do looks pretty amazing. It's probably a tiny bit too sharp, but otherwise that transfer is pretty stellar. Expanded color would be cool, if it makes a noticeable difference...

from what I understand 'The Walking Dead' is actually shot on 16mm film - I've not seen the blurays, but on cable - the image isn't that impressive.

Yep, 16mm, but that's enough to provide a good looking Blu-ray if filmed properly. I've watched it in HD through Netflix and thought it looked pretty good. They did intend to make the show look a little grittier than your avg. show to match the mood of the comics.

Good article on the filming from the DP: http://magazine.creativecow.net/arti...e-walking-dead

Yeah, it looks rather mediocre on satellite, but the BDs look much better.

I'll probably pick up Ghostbusters and Taxi Driver tomorrow, since those were both shot on film and could benefit from a remaster, and I like those movies the most out of all of these.

I would pick up Spider-Man down the road if they also release Spider-Man 2.

Keep in mind that if you own the old Taxi Driver disc, its already from a 4K transfer, and any improvement will be subtle to negligible.
