Thanks for posting that photo of the upcoming Synapse titles, NoirFan. A poster over at AVManiacs, Vincent P., claims to have taken a peek at the artwork and is calling it "a thing of absolute beauty". I don't see anything special about the art featured in HorrorHound - they're just the regular poster art. There's supposedly steelbooks coming for these. I like the original art but I'm kinda hoping Synapse comes up with some cool new designs in addition to the regular art. Give fans a choice, that sort of thing.

I really hope they redo the art for these, there's nothing special at all about what's in the ad!

I'm guessing Vincent P. is Vincent Pereira, who directed the film A Better Place, which was released on DVD by Synapse. He's also friends with Don May Jr, who runs Synapse. So I'd tend to believe what he says regarding the art.

Keep in mind what's in the print ad is clearly a mock-up and not the final packaging.

Fans of Kevin Smith will know Vinny from way back.

Perhaps the ad covers (original poster art) will be on the reverse.

Makes sense; I know Vincent has accounts on various sites (including the Home Theater Forum).

On a side note, I think A Better Place was actually the first Synapse release I ever purchased. My fandom of Kevin Smith is what led me to check it out in the first place...

Well, at LEAST if the cover arts depicted are what will be released then at least they are the poster artworks or VHS covers from the original releases. Even so, I believe those are merely place holders until the official artwork is finalized.

Glad to hear that Mcbain is still on the radar. This is one that I have been waiting for. If anyone has a contact for Synapse, can you ask them if it is possible to get rights to Black Eagle a 1988 film starring Jean-Claude Vandamme and Sho Kosugi? The existing dvd's are quite poor. This film could surely use a remaster and an OAR transfer. Also hoping some company get the rights to save Laser Mission from obscurity. The American dvd's are in a terrible washed out Fullframe transfer but uncut with gore. The german dvd is widescreen but has the gore removed...can't we get the best of BOTH worlds and get a widescreen uncut version? I love Brandon Lee and this is one of the few films of his that I Don't own due to the poor quality of the dvd.

I heard rumors that Synapse had acquired one of my favorite films, Brian Yuzna's Society, so I messaged them about it. Alas, Don said they'd been in talks with Yuzna, but it'd likely wind up going to Image. I can't think of a better company for the job, but oh well, at least the Second Sight disc is still coming.

Society is a favorite of mine too. I plan on importing the Second Sight release but also picking up the US release if it ever happens.

Hopefully at least one of them is the unrated version.

I'm sure you are right about that.

I really hope these get more of an official announcement soon especially in regards to bonus material. I have previous DVDs editions of these from Anchor Bay and Blue Underground that I am hoping I can get rid of if all the extras are on the blu-rays.

Thumbs down

In terms of keeping customers informed, I'm pretty disappointed that the Synapse Twitter feed is more about what movies some guy happens to be watching than what their company is actually putting out.

Seems like a lost opportunity for communication with the customer IMO.

Yeah, seems so. But I must say that Don May Jr. is one of THE coolest cats in the business. He cares. Few do. I have mad respect for him.
