Not a major difference, but detail is definitely a bit better. I would agree with marginal, but an improvement all the same. Obviously how much improvement will vary by title going off the Ghostbusters caps which are an even bigger improvement over these SM ones. The bigger the screen and closer the seating distance, the more impact these will have it seems. I would say it is definitely worth it for FP owners in particular. Now if they would just release some films I am interested in, or at least include the extended edition of the ones I am interested in (is there some reason they could not do seamless branching for Total Recall?).

Let me say it one more time: marginal my ass.
Agreed! Nice improvement all of the way around.

Yup. All one has to do is look at the bricks in the church in the background to see how much detail has been gained in this remaster.

I never purchased SPIDERMAN previously, glad I waited!

They still can't make Spider-Man 3 a good movie, i know we "ALL" can agree on that one.

Maybe, but I thought the Superbit version of "The Fifth Element" looked absolutely superb for a DVD. I still have it. Strangely, it goes for less on Amazon than the regular DVD edition.

Other studios maxed out bitrates w/o dumping extras or charging a premium.

An appreciable upgrade, though oddly it does not look as crisp as the Ghostbusters transfer to my eyes. Perhaps it was made from the IP rather than the camera negative (or, of course, maybe the screenshots are screwy).

Things you've said in this thread:
  • There isn't much difference in the releases
  • Those that bought these were too impatient to wait for reviews
  • Sony intentionally withheld these reviews from websites
  • This is all just a simple cash grab by Sony

Has anyone with capable players/displays noticed any difference via xvycc color? I'm sure not seeing any difference when I turn it on/off on my display. I'm playing Ghostbusters on a PS3 which supposedly supports it when the "super white" option is enabled. Although, now I'm wondering if it only supports it with AVCHD files....

If I can change that on the fly with my player I'll test it out after this baseball game.

It seems Spider-Man is an inherently soft movie.

I hear what your saying, studios when releasing blu ray's should go for the best quality possible @ that point in time. Even then studios should put out new transfers for each re-release reason being that the AVC codec has come along way since the first versions, the AVC codec is @ Version 17 now

Many movies before 2002 were soft. Nobody had HDTVs back then and High Definition was an unknown word until George Lucas started pushing for digital production technology with Star Wars Episode II.
