![]() ![]() I'm just glad I don't care about any of these movies because otherwise I might have become distracted from the highly entertaining drama typhoon here and elsewhere. Seriously though, Sony epically botched their marketing campaign for this. Between making it absolutely clear that none of these titles are in true 4K and adding special features to fill out the empty space, I'd say at least 90% of all the complaints would have been alleviated. |

Is there really a point to any of this? Don't a lot of titles already come from 4K sources? And with 50GB of space available on a dual-layer disc, do we really believe for one second that Sony will fully utilize(or even need) all of it without including any extras? Plus, one of the appeals of Superbit DVDs was the upgrade in sound from the DTS tracks. That's a non-issue with Blu-rays which already come with lossless audio.
It sounds like this 4K line of titles is for a marginal(if that) bump in video quality, identical audio, and a loss of all the extras. My biggest fear is that Sony will start to intentionally half-ass their non-4K releases in order to justify the double-dip later on. |

Dumb question but this is my 1st experience w/4k.
Will they play in a regular bluray player or do they only work in certain ones?? I just saw that Ghostbusters is coming out in 4k and got a good review for PQ vs. the original release and am considering picking it up. |

If you were to play it in an eventual 4k player, the player would just upscale it, just like your blu-ray player does to dvds. It still wouldn't look as good as a real 4k pressing of it....which will eventually exist. |

I recall a friend of mine who back in 2005 said he wasn't interested in Blu-Ray/HD-DVD when they come up because they would only look as good as Superbit titles. He eventually realized the folly of his thinking after seeing some of the same movies he owned in superbit on Blu-ray. From what I have seen of these titles so far, I would say this is the version to buy...if you don't already own it. So far, I won't be "upgrading" any of my past purchases. |

Late last year, I saw an older lady walking around with a copy of Brave DVD in her hands. It was obvious that she was hesitant b/c the price was $20. I picked up the BD/DVD combo and showed it to her. "Ma'am, this is $15. It's cheaper than the DVD, and you get both versions." "But I don't have a Blu-ray player." "Yes, but this includes the same DVD that you have in your hands, and it's $5 cheaper." "But I don't have a Blu-ray player." "That's okay, it's cheaper and you can play the DVD that is an entirely separate disc." "Oh." She was clearly still confused, though she picked up the BD/DVD combo and at least started looking at the specs on the back of each version. I hope that she bought the BD/DVD combo. ![]() |
