Pawn shop BD hunting - Blu-ray Forum

Anyone else check the the pawn shops for BD? I hav e found a few, especially being around a college...BD's equal beer money when times are tight....I left my name and number for them to call if any BD's show up....and the BD's I bought were 8 bucks each

damn that's tight. I also live in a college town but i don't know where the pawn shops are.Maybe i should start looking.

I asked an ebay seller where he gets all his blurays and he said he buys them for cheap at his pwn store and sells them online!

Yeah right, The vast majority of DVDs, BDs, and Games in pawn shops are stolen.

Thats a very common misconception. I used to own a pawn shop and very little merchanise that we took in was stolen and we had weekly police reports of things stolen.

Here where i live, pawn shops did what we used to do and use ebay as a buying and selling tool which limits the good deals found. Most just put them on ebay theirself. Theres about 8 places that sell used blu rays here so its pretty easy to find new releases under $20 if i wanna wait a few days after a title is released. Ends up saving me alot in the long run.

And how would you know if they are stolen or not? A guy walks in and says, "I need money to pay tuiton this quarter so I'm selling my DVDs". oh yeah, they couldn't possibly be stolen.

I think it is also leaping to conclusions to assume that the majority of them are stolen. I've sold many DVDs and video games to a local shop that deals with used movies/music/games. They take your driver's license number and home phone number so they can find you again if there is a problem.

Your right, dvds are hard to track if theyve been stolen unless names are wrote on the disc or case. Just from my experience, dvds are one of the least likely stolen items to end up in a pawn shop. Its usually things of more value like electronics, jewelry, and tools.

Its amazing how the OP was stating the good values of the Pawn shop and someone has to say they are stolen and crap all over it. Our Pawn shop has some good deals as well. They dont pay hardly anything for them when they are pawned so a why is this even an issue?

While I am sure stolen merchandise passes through pawn shops I think it is pretty stupid to assume the majority of it is. With them taking your info along with the police monitoring that goes on I would expect most of the goods are legit. People that think something sold at a pawn shop must have been stolen watched one to many episodes of Starsky and Hutch.

The majority of software that passes through pawn shops are stolen. With all do respect to our shop owner up there, while he may not have had a problem he knows about, thousands of other people have. I'm happy you're an exception

Fencing DVDs through GameStop has become far more popular in recent years, but that stopped as soon as they stopped paying cash. How do I know? Because the quality of the selection of essentially new discs dried up completely that very week. Not to mention the gigantic collection of box sets the GS next to the Coconuts store had...again until the Coconuts closed that is....

The media pawn shop I visited by North Hollywood was selling USED Blu-Rays for $24.99! Can you believe it? Silly, huh?

A few of the crappier titles were $19.99

Ive bought about 8-10 of my BDs for $15 each at pawn shops. Theres a chain of pawnshops in my city that are a lot less sketchey than your average pawn shop.

I hate pawn shops, I feel dirty after even spending 5 minutes in a pawn place.

Not saying anything bad about anyone else who likes to shop there though.

There is this big store where I live that has great deals on buying and selling used movies and games called Entertainmart. It's my new favorite retail store when I am looking for bargains.
