Cool Sound System under $3000

For my birthday, smack dab in the middle of May, I'll have enough saved up for a $3000 sound system. After careful research and study, this is the final set-up, ALL of which has been ordered from Amazon and eCost:
  • 1.) **ORDERED** The Onkyo 805 Reveiver. (Refurbished $598 including DHL S/H)

  • 2.) **ORDERED** A pair of these sweet Polk Audio Rti-A7 Floorstanding Front Speakers $474 ea Gold Box Price

  • 3.) **ORDERED** A set of Dipole/Bipole Polk Audio FXi A6 surround speakers for my rear surrounds. $420 shipped (third party Amazon seller)

  • 4. **ORDERED** A sparkly Polk Audio CSI A6 Center Channel Speaker $379 Gold Box Price

  • 5. **ORDERED** The SVS 20-39 Cylinder PCi Subwoofer $672 Shipped.

TOTAL COST: $2735
**and** FREE SHIPPING WITH AMAZON PRIME!

Thank you for all of your input and advice! I've already received the 2 front speakers and the center channel speaker and I should have the rest of it by next week! I will take photos once it's all set up in the new house. SWEET!!

Thats sounds like a pretty soild system u got in mind. Changes idk if would make any, Denon makes great recivers and the 3808ci is awsome reciver that will last a long time. Polk make some pretty good speakers and with 2 pairs of towers you got planned and a svs sub you will be able to shake ur house with little ease. so i say have a happy birthday and enjoy all ur system will have to offer

I'd spend 3k, buy the speakers now and buy the AVR later. Speakers will outlast every piece of AV electronics you buy. If you are going to spend any money on speakers, get some worth keeping 20+ years. I presume you have some sort of AVR currently so that the speakers wouldn't just sit in boxes.

Thanks for the props, guys! I really, really, REALLY want to buy the speakers now, but... I'm getting ready to sell my house and move into one with a much nicer entertainment room.

I'm a little ashamed to admit that my current audio set-up consists of a Yamaha all-in-one receiver with 5.1 satellite speakers. Don't get me wrong, it sounds good, but... it doesn't sound FREAKING AMAZING, which is what I want. That, and Dolby True-HD.

I would swap out both your side and rear speakers for a dipoles. Use the same for both side and rear.

*** EDIT: I have updated the side and rear speakers, bringing the total to about $3300 Thanks for the suggestion, guys! ***
  • 1.) The Denon AVR-3808ci Reveiver. $1245

  • 2.) A pair of these sweet Polk Audio Monitor 70 3-Way Floorstanding Front Speakers $590

  • Edit: 3.) 2 sets of these Dipole/Bipole Polk Audio FXi A4 Dipole/bipole surround speakers for my side and rear surrounds. $800

  • 4. A sparkly Polk Audio CSI A4 Center Channel Speaker $250

  • 5. The SVS Powered Box 10" Subwoofer $430

Everything but the sub can be seen in my Amazon Wishlist here:

What changes (if any) would you make?
Well if you want to bring the $$$ value down a little without sacrificing sound quality, I would make one recommendation...Audition a pair of PSB Alpha B1's!
I did and for just over $220/pr they sound Way better than the Warfedales i had. They were value product of the year, and runner up in the unlimited class for one review site last year (Unlimited class has speakers up to $75,000 approx "runner up!"). I am extremely pleased and shocked at the price. (Canada they are a little cheaper than USA, but List is $299.95/pr US). Worst case, you dont like them. I will be buying a second pair when time/money permits later this year to replace the last pair or warfedales (I had 2 pr).
check them out in the link of sig.
Regards,
pmac

edit: I have the 3808CI...LOVE IT!!!!

Dang it! i thought i was the only PSB Speakers owner around here... i was reveling in the exclusivity of owning these obscure, hidden "gems"...
I have Image T45,C40,and B15(2 pair)

Alpha B1's are... i can't put it in words... just embarrasses speakers 2 and 3 times its price... unbeatable accurate midrange.
