Still wishing the PS3 turned on and off to fold automatically. I know our production would increase quite a bit with this ease of use feature. Sometimes I'm too lazy to go set it up. Other times I forget.

I can't see any negative effects on the PS3 by using it to fold so I'll contribute what I can,

Alright guys I did it. I finally joined.

Couple of questions. Didn't read the whole thread so you'll have to excuse me.

1. On options you get to pick which mode. What's the difference between Normal and Advance?

2.Do I have to keep it on the Folding Site?

Folding rigs can turn off? This is the craziest thing I've ever heard. The folding client does have a start when idle feature.

1. Advance mode allows your PS3 to recieve larger work units. This is intended for people who leave their PS3 on for more than a few hours at a time. Although right now, no matter which setting I use, I get nothing but the 125 pointers, for a while I was getting 1500 pointers occasionally with advanced.

2. Do you mean keep the folding client active on the PS3? If thats what your asking, then yes. The PS3 is very memory limited so something like F@H cannot be run as a background task.

Yes, but your PS3 has to be on the XMB screen to launch F@H. Many times it's in standby mode because I'm not the only user of the PS3. For example, it's playing PS2 - Diego's Safari Rescue right now(Not Me). When the user is done, a BD or DVD probably will be inserted and later the machine will be shut off (standby mode). How then can the PS3 be used for productive folding purposes if someone doesn't initiate it to start? Especially when others @ home think of folding as a waste of electricity so they won't obviously initiate it when finished.

Dang it I just remembered. Going into the summer time and all through the summer time is going be a b**** around here. The cable around here in my apartment building goes on the fritz. I can't even stay online. There's something with the cable wire up in the attic in this building but none of the cable people want to do anything about it. They say they can't So in the summer time as soon as it starts getting hot with 100% humidity. Kiss my connections goodbye. So I don't know how much help I can be. The only time possible is at night. From 9pm to 9am. Not as hot and humid

Training. With a very sharp stick. PPD is at stake here.

Alan, you're being so helpful over here - perhaps you're folding for the wrong team!

The sharp stick method is being used on me to do simple things like cleaning up after myself, taking out the garbage, or even doing dishes. It won't work in reverse around here.

Exactly. I wonder how many of the other teams have such a wonderful and encouraging coach stepping in with a friendly whip

Well, I would be top 10 in PPD and overall points, assuming stanford ever stops losing all my 2605s. Far cry from #324 overall at the [H].

I dont know how much you guys venture out from your forum, but one of the main reasons I participate in F@H over other projects is the community. I've gotten more help than I can ever remember when I started, and recieved warm welcomes everywhere I visited. So I try to give a little back to the community whenever I can.

Its all about negotiation. I do my chores, you keep my folding going on all cylinders. Its also good to keep in mind when you are looking to buy more folding hardware.

A lot of teams have their generals. We have Relic, OCAU has Bollocks, MaxPC has gsmitheman. Sooner or later somebody gets bitten by the folding bug hard enough to take it to that level.

A concise explanation of what F@H is about should make anybody ashamed of bringing up the "waste of electricity" argument. Donating for noble causes is in every decent human being's blood - and in this case it is also very personal for at least 3/4 of the North American families; my family is a part of this sad statistics as well (father died of cancer, mother in law have Parkinson's).

I'm in the same boat as you. If I read right this helps them do research on Alzheimer's. I know it's a long shot but if they can help other people in the early stages on this in that would be awesome. It's sad when you have somebody you love going though that. It sucks to when it's your own family member that you know that loves you then this happens and doesn't even know you. Asks you how you are related to him or her.

PlayTV with the PS3's supposedly going to be capable of this so maybe Folding@home will eventually too.

Go away for a day and it gets very busy around here!

FOLD ON!!

Tommyboy81 - if you are having connection issues, the PS3 will hold units (6 I think) until it is able to connect with the server to upload and download.
It will try over and over to connect so if your connection is unstable, it might find a time when it is up and get the units back over and pick up a new assignment.
Besides, summer is 3 months away...plenty of folding can happen between then and now!

Default Completed 6 units already

I started around 8:45 last night. I finally check it after coming home from work and I've already completed 6.

Question. I see the rankings are based on points not units. How does the point system work? Because I see people that are higher up than me with 4 work units but more points.
