Default No Country for Old Men question.

I can hear amazing details in the wind and background noise but where the heck is the sound when they are having conversations. I hear a lot of background stuff its just weird was the movie done this way or is it a defect. Just sat down with the wife to watch it for the first time.

Default No Porno For Old Men

um I will have to check this out... cause i do own that movie in blu.. sometime studio will make the wind noise go then mute the sound before any actor starts a conversation.. so it can be some type of effect of sound mixing.

Try put on the headphone and listen carefully

The thing is I can hear noises fine, but I watched for 20 minutes and their lips would move but I could never hear any words.

Check the connections to your center speaker. All the dialog should be coming loud and clear from the center.

Umm, I believe it's called "speech."

Important note:

If you want to discuss the movie itself, do it in the appropriate forum and thread, ie, this one:
https://forum.blu-ray.com/showthread.php?t=42023

Thanks.

nycomet, let the guy alone. You shouldn't talk. If you want to nitpick the proper term isn't "speech" as you "believe", but rather dialogue.

MODS: Can you move this thread to the proper location Grubert linked to? TIA.

Keith

Inasmuch as it involves a reported technical issue with the release, it's best discussed here.

Note: I am a mod.

lol I was going to say...

It sounds like your center channel might be a little funky. Is it just this movie that it's doing it on? Are you using the Dolby Digital track or the PCM track? What are you watching the movie on?

That's the big thing. I'm guessing you have audio via TOSlink/optical cable and are listening to the PCM track. Since it's only 2.1 (or 2.0?) audio it's cutting out when dialog is occurring.

FWIW, I use optical and the 5.1 track is phenomenal. I haven't had any issues and I just watched it with a buddy this weekend. (PS3, optical to receiver, 42" 1080p LCD).

I agree about PCM through optical is only 2 channels. But it will not just carry the front LR channels only, it will downmix the whole 5.1 channels into 2 speakers, so the dialog should NOT be missing. Not sure about the OP's problem, could be a bad disc.

Note: To get 5.1 channel through optical, you need to output bitstream to get the core DTS & Dolby. With optical, you will never get to hear the HD audio anyway, so why not at least get the whole discrete 5.1 channels instead of using PLII.

Yeah, seems like something is wrong. The dialog was clear and easy to hear/understand when I watched it.
