On the contrary, historically violent entertainment and over abundance of sexually content in art is used to detract people's attention from political issues.
The nazis and Italians during the 1940s had abundant bordellos and cabarets. During Serbian-Bosnian war, pornography was shown on television for free, sponsored by the government. .
While there is usually the attempt for the State to try and get a handle on and "merchandise" the competition as a state product, to dole it out in prescribed amounts and hope to keep its threat of distraction under control--
On the other hand, Goebbels was so disgruntled by the fact that "decadent" US swing-jazz was wooing even German teens away from the glories of the Fatherland, his propaganda to the US would often petulantly satirize sarcastic answers to popular swing hits, such as rewriting political anti-Semitic lyrics to "Makin' Whoopee". Nyahh, you and your MTV!

NOW compare that to the Fundie preacher who was "jealous" of Pokemon and the WWF "getting all the press"....See where this's going?
It was that way towards Disney too, in the 90's, and ten times even more so, as long as Ariel and Belle could still grab young hearts and minds in ways that Pat Robertson couldn't.

I really never understood the nazis taste in their ideal art. They were against music by minorities but did not mind gypsy Django Reinhardt to play his amazing jazz guitar throughout Berlin in nazi Germany. Nietzsche and Wagner were considered the ideals for philosophy and music, later banned when they final thoroughly read their works. All these views were used to distract the german people from their main agenda of world domination. Yes fanaticism was also a key element, but the element of media sponsored distraction (with sexual content and what not) was also key.

To counter your coment, the Nazis fanaticism was used to build their war machine for their political agenda of world domination. Lol, I do not believe that the Bible Belt, rattle snake handlers have the same final agenda, or the political power to do so.

Yes; I'd argue the nuclear bomb (for the most part) assures peace and co-operation between countries. The threat of being completely annihilated and possibly wiping most of the world out is enough to scare leaders into never pushing the button.

It's a dangerous and strange peace, but it's peace nonetheless.

Wasn't there a study not long ago that talked about there being a threshold of perception that made subliminal messages basically useless?

Yes, I tried my best to be within the context of movies, as mentioned in the rules, but I will not pursue the argument anymore.

It is really hard not to mention politics or religion in a thread like this, the whole point of a subliminal message to hide something.

I can really understand that it is not easy to do that in such threads. But I did not make the rules, I was just asked to make sure people abide by them

And besides, it was the Pretentious Guy's fault for getting me off the thread in the first place--Ten years on Usenet, and I should've been able to spot a Red-Herring Troll a mile away.
My only point was about the real reasons the whole goofy Lion King story started in the first place, and why some folks in search of a cheap gag are still goofier enough to believe it out of context twenty years after it was busted--Ie., they WANTED to.
(Was it that really hard to understand? )

Just when I thought I was out, they pull me back in!

We were just having fun, so apologies if we got carried away. I enjoyed reading everyone's points earlier today. I think that this whole thing is my fault for giving my two cents on Loose Change when that movie was mentioned, but, then again, I was trying to keep the commentary related to the actual film.

Any effectiveness of subliminal messages are based entirely on nonsense.

If subliminal messages actually did anything, every single advertising, communications, and design program in every university in the world would teach courses on it.

Yeah, it's weird, but I've been seeing the alien subliminal "OBEY" signs everywhere now--
I've begun seeing them on caps and t-shirts, instead of slogans and sports teams!

I got to get me one of those. Especially if I'm looking into leadership positions.

Sure you aren't sleep deprived and been mind probed

Or maybe you're just dreaming, and you're coming to the end now that you know our nefarious plan

I just have one question i'd like to get your opinions on.

Why does the one eye and the pyramid, sometimes used together or simply just a one eye here and there, oddly placed, pop up in almost all mainstream sources of media?

Especially movies, music and select cartoons?

The all-seeing eye of those who watch. A symbol of their hands being in everything.
