Default needing help with htib and 7.1

ok the onkyo ht-sr800 is a 7.1 htib well i heard that the only way that you can get 7.1 is through hdmi well the onkyo sr800 only transfers video through hdmi not audio. so that means that you have to use an optical cable so im thinking about buying this htib but if i cant use the 7.1 with my ps3 than i dont want it. is there anyone out there who can help me wit the questions.

can you access 7.1 without hdmi or am i just missing something..im kinda a noob at this i just want a nice system for about 500 and consumer reports rates this at the top of the line??

I have the same HTIB and it spreads the surround channel to the rear surround speakers. If you have a few extra hundred bucks theres another HTIB that Onkyo offers that comes with a onyko 605. I'd spring for that. I'm regreting it now.

so do you actually get use out of all 7 speakers with the ps3? if the blu ray is 7.1 compatable does it work on the htib?

The only way to hear 5.1/7.1 Uncompressed PCM, Dolby TrueHD & Dts-HD Master is to use either an HDMI or Multichannel Analog cable.

That HTiB set he's talking about is a full-fledged 7.1 HDMI receiver with Dolby TrueHD and DTS HDMA decoding PLUS a 7.1 speaker set.

So using it with the PS3 for games and SELECT movies on BD will get you 7.1 sound. Most movies are in 5.1 only, however.
