If you want to watch carefully for that period of time, that is perfectly safe and probably the route most follow. Heck, average Joe consumer probably just plugs it in and watches without any though of break-in. If you watch 2 hours of TV a night, that break-in period would be nearly 2 months.

However, using a break-in disk allows you to get past that 100+ hour period quickly. I just bought my fist plasma last Friday. I am sitting at work, and my plasma is running the break-in disk at home right now. I'm over 50 hours already, and would be even higher if the TV wasn't in our bedroom so we turn it off at night (I suppose I could cover it with a blanket or something). I want to get the break-in over so I can set the colors where I want them and watch what I want when I want (won't be any gaming and very little with static images in our case).

The break-in disk can be downloaded for free and runs for 24 hours if left untouched. It is simply a full screen of one solid color. The color changes every 30 seconds - white to blue to green to purple to red to.... You get the point (and I made up the color order - I can't say I've studied it).

So is this particular disk required? No. Does it simplify and shorten the break-in period? IMHO, yes.

Seriously Ive had my plasma since december, i have no image rentention or no burn ins, i havent had any probs
