To me it sounds like Paramount has total rights to Jason for the next 5 years. In my mind that means the home video market as well. Hopefully we get some clarification on this. I know WB said that something is in the works for the blu-ray set.

WB is simply distributing Paramount titles on Blu-ray, so this news doesn't have an impact on the Blu-ray release. Whether WB or Paramount releases it, the content will be the same.
However.... What if Paramount/WB now wants to wait to release the boxset to coincide with either the theatrical or Blu release of the new flm? ![]() |

to be honest, Jason X was the first one I picked up on DVD, others were in sets I couldn't afford at the time. I also didn't shop online as much as I do now.
My next purchase was 1 on blu, then 3, 7, and 8 on dvd. I haven't bought any since. I want them, but I can wait for a box set because I've seen them all WAAAAY too many times for it to even matter really. Same with NOES. Hence Why I waited for the box set for SOO LONG. |

The way I understand it that Warner has agreed to give up their 50% ownership of Friday the 13th and South Park to Paramount for the next 5 years, in order for them to have a 50% stake in the new Christopher Nolan film at Paramount. They haven't lost their stake in anything that already exists. This agreement only applies to new entries in the F13 series of films (and a potential second South park film). Anything that Paramount does with either franchise over the next 5 years will be the sole property of Paramount. After this new agreement expires, the 50/50 ownership between Paramount & Warner will resume, but Paramount will retain 100% control of anything that was produced between 2013 and 2018. |

My fear is that Paramount will make a found footage film then release sequels for the next 4 years.

Well, Cropsy... the series was already dead for a long time. At least to me.
I don't think you have anything to worry about. Paramount will likely never make this a found footage film just because PA is one. It will probably be the sequel to part 4 that was talked about months ago -- a retcon. Or another remake. Sequel to the remake. 80% of the Friday the 13th fanbase hated the remake so that's not really the right way to go I would think. I can't say I'm not happy that something is happening at Paramount among all places. I never thought I'd see a Paramount era Friday again. |
