My favorite movie is 'The Majestic' starring Jim Carrey. About a year ago, while researching the town of Ferndale, I learned about a bit of artwork that was created in 2001 by a local artist during the filming of 'The Majestic'. Artist Jack Mays sketched an image of The Majestic theater facade that was built in the town for the movie and then he set to work getting all of the cast and crew to sign it.
![]() After he got it signed (by everyone but Jim Carrey), the artwork was sold at auction to benefit the town's local rep theater. Hotel (Victorian Inn) owners Lowell Daniels & Jenny Oaks purchased the original and put it on display in the hotel, where Jim Carrey eventually signed it. Shortly thereafter, high quality copies of the artwork were made available for purchase. The production run was limited to 1951 copies, with the first 10 being remarqued (signed) by the artist (Jack Mays). When I learned of the copies of this artwork I immediately contacted the Victorian Inn to purchase one for myself. But, alas, I was 10 years too late. I was told that all copies had long since been sold. Bummer! Fast froward to about a week ago when my wife and I paid a visit to the town of Ferndale (as one stop on a much larger road trip to Canada and back). Of course, while we were there I simply had to go to the Victorian Inn to look at the original artwork. As an employee escorted me to the area where the artwork was hung, I again asked about purchasing a copy and I was again told that they had all been sold. So, I spent about 10 minutes looking at the original and taking photos, including closeups of the signatures. As I turned to leave the room where the original was displayed, a gentleman sitting quietly in the corner (I did not notice him when I first came into the room) turned to me and said, "I can sell you a copy of that if you're interested!" I insisted that it wasn't possible because all copies had already been sold. He insisted that it was possible because there were a couple of copies left! That's when I asked him if he was hotel owner Lowell Daniels. BINGO! Mr. Daniels went and grabbed the copy from his office. I was stunned that it was #8 of 1951, one of the copies that was originally priced at $500. I was overjoyed that Lowell offered it to me for $200! SOLD!! This is absolutely a case of being in the right place at the right time! I am thrilled to be adding this bit of movie memorabilia to my collection. Once I get it framed, I'll be sure to post photos! It's coming along. Seems to be taking me forever. I'm trying to do it right though. One thing that sucks is that I'm going to probably have to stick with 5.1 unless I can figure out a way to do 7.1. Not to worried right now though. We're planning on getting new speakers next year so I'll see what can be done then. My rears suck right now and will be completely changing anyway.
I did pick up the collectors edition Buzz and Woody from Toy r' us. I don't usually buy toys per say but I've been eyeing them for like two or three years now. Once I get the room done I can take more pics. |

Re: The message above I posted on June 9....
We picked up our 'The Majestic' print from the frame shop today! We are VERY pleased with the results!! ![]() It's print #8 out of 1,951! ![]() Jim Carrey signed it just to the left of the ticket booth: ![]() Martin Landau signed it near the top, complete with a little caricature: ![]() Here's where we hung it in our theater room, right next to our collection of movies on Blu-ray, HD DVD and DVD: ![]() Here's the list of actors, extras, crew, etc. that signed the original print: ![]() We're so excited to add this to our movie memorabilia!! Thank you!
I still haven't been able to find Laurie Holden and Frank Darabont's signatures. I'm sure they're on there, there's just sooooo many signatures! I'll keep looking. ![]() Mark Last edited by MEB; 07-01-2013 at 05:57 PM. |
