I recently bought both Batman and Batman Returns on Blu-Ray. I'm extremely happy with both releases.
Batman Returns has always been my favourite Batman movie. It is a perfect film. People complained because it was much darker than Batman but in my opinion when it comes to Batman, the darker the better. Yes, the movie was more violent than it's predecessor but Batman didn't have too much action in it. I gotta say, Batman Returns was given amazing treatment for Blu-Ray. The Picture Quality is phenomenal, not only is it perfect but it looks like what HD Video is supposed to look like. Being the first film to be mixed in 5.1 Audio the lossless (Dolby TrueHD) 5.1 Audio Mix is incredible. It is a nice improvement over the 5.1 DTS Track on the Special Edition DVD which was already a really good mix. I also love that all the special features from the Two-Disc Special Edition DVD were ported over. Not only is Batman Returns is a great movie to own on Blu-Ray, but the HD transfer alone makes it worth owning. |

I own Batman (89) and Batman Returns. I haven't watched them in a while, but both seemed pretty solid for catalog titles of this nature. I just bought a new display that is getting pro cal'd (along with my audio system) in another week. Maybe it will be time to give them a spin again.

I own both Batman and Batman Returns on Blu-Ray. Last time I watched them was when my 32" LCD was my main display and I had no 5.1 surround sound but even then they both looked and sounded great.
Burton definitely had more artistic control over Returns then he did with Batman 89. The style, tone, cinematography and visuals with the eye popping colours and everything really stand out. |

Batman Returns is one of my favorite movies. I used to watch it over and over on VHS all the time when I was younger. But now, the only thing about it that I don't like is that Gotham City felt smaller to me than it did in the first one. Returns seemed to take place in just the town square and the zoo.

It's really interesting how my friends and I thought Batman Forever was so good back when we saw it in the theater in 1995 (we were all in our mid- to late-twenties at that time, and one even remarked that it was the best of the 3 up to that point), and now I find it almost unwatchable. Not nearly to the degree of Batman & Robin (really, really, just...bad -- and I realized it as I was watching it in the theater in 1997). Funny how perception and perspective change over time. That's all.

Loved Danny Devito as the Penguin. Still my favourite Batman movie. |

If I remember correctly from the theater to the first dvd this film had a fairly poor sound mix, which was fixed with the 2006 DVD and blu ray special editions. It really helped Elman's score because at certain points it was way too loud and killed the dialogue, and at other moments it was so dialed down it was barely audible (kind of like the Ben Burtt hack jobs on John Williams' scores for the prequels).

Even the transfer for the Blu-Ray of Batman (1989) is excellent as well but in my opinion Batman Returns looks even better than Batman. In the end though, the transfers for both the Blu-Rays of Batman and Batman Returns are splendid improvements over the transfers created for the 2-Disc Special Edition DVDs. I imported the UK versions of B89 and Returns when they came out and the PQ blew me away, though certain visual effects in B89 stuck out like a sore thumb. For instance, in the beginning of the film when Batman is seeing the thugs mug the family, Batman is clearly just an animation and looks very odd. This is something I never noticed on the DVD version. However, the matte shots of Gotham look fantastic.

Did anyone else had a crush on Catwoman growing up? i did since i was 8 when i saw reruns of the 60's show and Julie Newmar with Lee Meriwether both caught my eye as i was in love with them and i read the comics as i thought she looked gorgeous in the purple outfit. Then i saw Batman Returns in theaters and watched the animated show, she looked hot as a blonde on TAS and Michelle's version was stunning.
![]() ![]() Catwoman along with Abigale Arcane in Swamp Thing, Wonder-Woman, Batgirl, Harley, Ivy, Black-Cat etc. as one of my comic book character crushes. |

That's an awesome deal, get them both. Its less for what I paid when I bought both at the same time a couple of years back and they weren't even steels, just regular cases.

I'm watching this disc now and I'm a bit bewildered at all the praise for the picture quality. It is very clearly not from a native 1080p master. It looks much like Warner's original BD of The Fugitive. It's halfway between a BD and an upconverted DVD.
Fine edges, diagonal lines, and anything bright (like the "Hell here" sign and the "Schreck's" department store sign, all have very obvious, blocky, pixely elements. They clearly just recycled a dated HD transfer that was created for the last go-round of DVDs. This film badly needs to be remastered. If anyone can't see the pixels, look at the two neon signs I described, they're the most obvious instances, but the problem is present in almost every shot. |
