The trouble with BD players is they haven't come down in price alot of them are still well above 1299.99 not including tax

I don't know what country you're in, but in the US there are a number of players below $1000. The PS3, Samsung's, and Sony's standalone are under $1000. Also, this July Sony is releasing a $600 BD stand-alone player. Which all are above $1299? The LG combo player is an exception, since it does both formats.

The movies are the same price as HD-DVD, and even less when an HD-DVD is a combo format release.

I know its the standard retort but, the ps3 is cheap and I think the best looking blu-ray player out there. my wife bought mine for me just for that purpose. I have 2 video games for it (i think I played one last week for about 15 minutes), but I have over 30 bd's now.

maybe you are looking at the MSRP because i have seen the first gen samsunag play for 599 and 499 in alot of places and the ps3.

the trouble with hd dvd is only one manufacturer

Not bad for first and early gen stuff of a new, bleeding edge technology.

You should know this better than a lot of the rest of us if you really were born in 1958:

What did VHS and Beta cost when they first came out? What did laserdisc and DVD's cost when they first came out?

Now adjust for inflation. It's not even close.

yeah at this point you might even be able to still find a 20 gig one though i wouldn't be too sure on that front.
