Man, that scene with with the zombie that kept turning around really got me. The video game influence hit paramount in that scene, time you're jump between cover to ensure the Zombie doesn't catch you.

The Pepsi thing was ridiculous to me as well.

Sounds like another testament to how far video games have come, while films have regressed.

Sounds like pretty much what I'm expect: all action, little substance. I was hopeful that it would be great, given the good reviews, but after reading this my enthusiasm has waned a bit. I'll probably still try and catch it in theaters though; I'm especially intrigued to see how those last 40 minutes or so of reshooting turned out.
Trust me, the last 40 minutes are so notably different to the rest of the film.

From the suspenseful and terrifying fall of New York to pulsating thrilling city siege of Jerusalem to the conclusion set in the exciting exotic location of
[Show spoiler]Wales.

I thought the last 40 minutes were pretty effective

I don't disagree, they're good, but it's a total change of pace and scheme.

I see what you mean, there's a point halfway through where a discernable shift happens.

I can overlook the flaws and plot holes because it has just the right tone and enough effective action sequences (there are STAKES!). Best action film of the year so far for me (that is, until Pacific Rim)

Pacific Rim is the film I'm banking all my chips on, giant robots fighting giant monsters what could go wrong, I'm really hoping it doesn't suck.

Sweet. It comes out about a week and a half before mine (Wolverine comes out the weekend of my Bday)

I got After Earth and The Purge for my Birthday this year, considering I avoided both I'd say that's rather weak.

EDIT: Oh yeah, got Before Sunrise set up for tomorrow morning

My only concern is that it looks sooooo much like an Evangelion live-action film. Still wouldn't be a bad thing imo, especially since a proper Eva film has always been rumored, but has never actually surfaced.

Same here. Although I didn't like Hellboy at first, it really grew on me, especially with its sequel. Everything else has been decent.

Watching Cloud Atlas again. Old review still applies, but I'm deeply considering pumping the score up to 5/5.

The Blu-Ray looks and sounds great.

PQ: 4.5/5, AQ: 4.5/5

Ah... I know, my mind tells me it's not perfect, but my senses on the other hand tell me it is.

Did you jump on that sweet $14.99 deal?

Unfortunately, no, I was too impatient. The price drop occurred after I got it in the mail.

Still well worth $25.

What!? No chips for Kick-Ass 2!?

Seriously, other than Kick-Ass 2, I think Pacific Rim might be my most anticipated of the unreleased summer movies.

I'm cautiously optimistic towards Kick-Ass 2, everything I've seen so far is so-so but hopefully I'm wrong on this account. I've knocked back so much this Summer that I can't even get rallied up for The World's End.

Fair enough I guess. Hopefully it's like the first one where it's just difficult to properly promote and not what the trailers seem like. I actually haven't watched anything since the first trailer and I'll probably keep it that way.

Kind of odd that I'm more psyched about a sequel to a movie I basically ignored until it came out on Blu-ray, but it happens I guess.

I'd be surprised if The World's End didn't deliver for you whenever you see it. I'm nowhere near the Edgar Wright fan you are and I think it looks much better than This is the End.

Default A Movie A Day: Day 427

The Land Before Time (1988)
dir. Don Bluth
The Good: Gorgeous animation. Deeply moving, goosebump-inducing score by master composer James Horner. And that theme song, 'If We Hold On Together' sung by the great Diana Ross... my god, who in the world doesn't love that song. Endearing characters; perhaps one of my most favorite cinematic band of friends ever. I especially love Ducky; she's so adorable and has got a great attitude. (I was devastated to find out the little girl who voiced the character was murdered by her father shortly before the theatrical release. She was only 10. That's f*cked up.)

The Bad: Oversentimental. Manipulative. Contrived. Childish dialogue. That Cera's such a stuck-up b*tch.

The Bottom Line: I tried to hate this. I really did. I tried to knock a few stars off for its flaws, but I just can't do it. I can't. This childhood favorite is simply impossible to hate. Land Before Time, once again, you have raped my heartstrings. You own me. You still own me.
