It looks way too good to be upconverted. The up close facial details are great, and even on TNT, it looks better than many Blu-ray transfers.

You haven't seen an upconverted DVD done with "real" studio equipment.

Well it is a bit more than that.
My main beef is that they cropped the film.

Spike HD was showing the star wars films and they also looked fantastic! I do not have the pay channels so I missed these when they were shown on HBO.

I saw the LOTR films in HD last year and I agree the Blu-Rays for these films will be great.
