I don't understand the people who are so desperate for 3D to die. If you don't like it, choose the 2D alternative. Just because you don't like it, doesn't mean you have to stop it completely for those that do. I could understand a bit if your local theatre rarely offers the 2D choice, but in that case I feel like what you really should want is the choice between the two, and not your least preferred option to be destroyed. If 3D does go away I expect it'll be around 2018. There's still the possibility that Peter Jackson might make good on his wish and have The Lord of the Rings trilogy rereleased annually in 3D following the Hobbit, which would run from 2015-2018 if it did happen. And I expect the new Star Wars trilogy will be complete in 3D, which Disney said they want in 2015, '17 and '19. Avatar sequels may invigorate the interest in the technology, or better yet improve it, and they'll be around '15-'18 too. So if it does die down, after these would be when it did. But who knows, it might live longer. I personally hope it does, as long as the choice between 2D and 3D remains until the technology is perfected.

Despite it being revealed that "The Lone Ranger" was going to lose $150-190 million for Disney yesterday, the studio's stock price actually went up 1%.

Why is that? It's apparently all due to J.J. Abrams "Star Wars: Episode VII". Variety reports that, even though we're two years out, some fairly specific estimates have been issued regarding the profitability of the new film.

Credit Suisse’s Michael Senno says he expects Disney to generate around $733 million in profits and $1.2 billion in global theatrical receipts. That's just for this first film on its own.

It's also expected to make a bundle on consumer products and other tie-in revenue which will lift the stock to a new target price of $74 (it reached $64.66 yesterday).

but there is a one big fear as well as these all high technical shows are not going to be made without the help of the computer special effects and graphics .. so you may get bored by seeing so many repeated scenes . .. very string chances of the happenings of the same

Avengers sucks, Buns of Steel sucks, The Terminator franchise is long over with, Justice league is just more superhero CG crap - as if we havent had enough of that already. Ant Man? Fut the wuck is that all about?

Star Wars EP 7 is the ONLY thing that has any intrigue at all and its possible they screw that up too.

James Bond? Talk about desperation - The Bond franchise died with Roger Moore about 30 years ago. Even then it was repetitive and more predictable than a made for TV movie.

Wake me up when something original comes out that isnt just an excuse to cram copius amounts of shit on the screen and show shaky-cam fighting scenes for two+ hours.

Well, I agree that those of us that cant stand 3D do get a little whiny about it and its demise. I dont want it to die a horrible death, I just dont want it to become the norm or raise the costs of the viewing experience for everyone else. In other words, keep it as an upcharge/upgrade item for those that want it but do NOT build it into the price of regular blu-rays or whatever else. Dont make it harder to get 2D versions of films. Dont force it on everyone. I feel modern TVs already are sacrificing image quality in order to cram 3D support in their products.

Just keep it seperate and pass the costs onto ONLY those that must have it.

I know - sorry. Ive just been totally unimpressed with many of these franchises and the fact that they wont just let some of them rest in peace. Im not miserable though.... there are plenty of decent flicks out there and some have promise that are still yet to come out. Ive just reached my "max" point with superhero movies, remakes, reboots, reimaginings.

Plus, there are always the tried and true favs to go to when needed.

I'm mostly in agreement with you (although as a hardcore uber-fan of the James Bond franchise, I scoffed at your denigration of it), however, I'm in a "wait-and-see" mode for now. Maybe some of these high-profile movies will start looking good as we approach their release dates. Maybe none of them will. I just don't go see the films I'm not interested in watching. The main reason we keep getting more sequels, prequels, remakes, reboots and reimaginings is because they continue to make money, as you well know.

The only 2 movies I've seen in the cinema so far this year have been franchise sequels, so I'm as guilty of this as anyone.

if you don't like something, just say so. No need to make such absurd statements to try and justify it. Skyfall was one of the biggest hits with audiences and critics last year, it was the second biggest money maker of the year - in front of The Hobbit and The Dark Knight Rises - and continued Craig's run as one of the most popular Bonds of all time.

I'm not saying that because it mades loads of money and loads of people liked it that it means you have to think it's good or like it yourself. But it does show that the franchise is far from desperate or that it died 30 years ago - it's at the top of its game at the moment.

Two new rumours to throw into the pot - firstly, Star Trek 3 will shoot next year according to Zachary Quinto, leaving it ready for a 2015 release. I don't believe this will happen as it seems stupid to not wait until 2016 for the 50th anniversary. especially after it worked so well for Bond/Skyfall. he also says that Abrams is looking to direct again, which makes it even less likely that it will film next year as JJ will have his hands full.

Even less likely, aintitcool.com are running a rumour that the Batman reboot will come in 2015. Only 3 years after The Dark Knight Rises? Extremely unlikely.

Two projects that have been kind of quiet: the Bladerunner sequel/reboot and TRON 3. Disney is also working on a Black Hole remake. Don't know when these are slated to come out.

3D doesn't make the movie better.


I will still see all of these movies, why not. If they are bad. Always have that option of walking out.

The film was relatively low-budget and generated large returns. You can even tell that the screenwriters wrote the film and the ending so a sequel could be made.

I would like to voice that I've had it with superhero movies for now. The Avengers is quite overrated as it has no real morals to go along with the plot, which is really a shame since time is actually spent on character development in the movie. I've got the same problem with all of the Marvel movies. InHollywood today, it's all about making money and feeding the absurd hunger for action that today's moviegoers suffer from.
