If they go so far as to change the origins of the characters and not have sue & johnny brother/sister......that would be enough of a change for me to forgo this release.

I remember you saying that in another thread the other day. But Fox announcing this is surely a sign that it's still moving forward? I can't see the point of them doing so unless it was an actual plan.

My guess is that they want to announce the cast all at once and are busy working on that, hence the quietness. Yes, Comic Con would have been the best place to do it (as you mentioned on the other thread) but if they haven't quite finalised all four and they did want to announce them as a group - well, I can see it being worse announcing three of the four (for example) than none at all.

I'm optimistic. Fox don't have many franchises left and I'm sure would rather desperately cling on to the couple of Marvel ones they have than lose another one.

I also agree that they want to announce the cast at once and not individually which is why things were quiet at Con this year. Who do you guys think should be cast as the 4 and Dr. Doom?

It's not just the lack of con announcements...It's the lack of any information at all that really bothers me. Now it's starting to look like they might rush the whole film into production, just to keep the rights, because they're starting to sit dangerously close to the teetering point of handing them back over to Marvel. I just have this gut feeling that something is wonky with the film itself.

I want to believe Fox will make a good movie, but I'm starting to feel that they know they have a possible problem with the film, and now they're trying to get it into production as quick as possible to release it and keep the rights. I know that is a pessimistic way to look at it, but I can't help but feel that way over the film.

Fair enough. I don't see it that way - I assume they're working on it to make sure that, when they do announce it, they can announce it as one, firm package. It's not the norm these days where everything gets leaked and announced constantly for a constant stream or PR but, if they were rushing it, I think we'd be getting more leaks as they'd be a bit more careless. I also think filming in September is a sign of not rushing it as it's 18 months ahead of release which is a very healthy amount for this sort of film (longer than any of the Marvel Cinematic Universe films which varied between 11 and 14 months). And we all know from X-Men 3 (9 months) and X-Men: First Class (8 months) that if Fox want to rush a superhero film then they can and they will. If they were rushing this then they could have it out August next year and avoid the box office battle that is 2015 (I realise this is missing out on the summer but it till risks been seen as a limp also-ran compared to the year's behemoths). They won't lose the rights unless they fail to release a F4 film by 2015. When they film it doesn't matter. They could hold off filming it until next year and still get one out before the deadline if that's all it was. A September start is a good sign.

So I can see what you mean but I don't see it that way at all. Perhaps I'm being overly optimistic to counter your pessimism but I really think Fox are trying hard not to screw this franchise up again because they know that if they do the next time they try no-one will turn up - and that's as good as losing the franchise rights.

I'd rather the rights revert back to Marvel so they can make a good movie.

They love announcing the cast piecemeal to keep the excitement building and to stay in the news.

Did GoG announce the whole cast at once? XMDOFP?

But like someone said--it's the lack of any buildup---no producer or director raving about the script or talking about rewrites or polishing or any sustained bits of info---it's like NO OTHER CBM movie in the last several years in that respect.

The last 2 bits of info released have been nothing more than 'shooting starts in ______"

That sounds like the kind of announcement you make when you have NOTHING else to say AND acting as if you are really set on retaining the rights.

I hope Marvel Studios has a plan ready if this reverts to them---because I think it's 50/50.

Or else they'll rush a piece of cr*p on film to hold the rights until another rebbot 7 years after that.

Honestly, if the film bombs, I can't see Fox choosing to retain the rights. The second film apparently had disappointing numbers so I can't see them holding on to a franchise if it's not going to produce anything for them.

Time for Disney to draw up a really enticing offer so we can have an Avengers-Fantastic Four film, and maybe someday an Avengers-Fantastic Four-X-Men film. Wonder if the Internet would literally explode.

Wow, they are going really young with this! And people thought Ioan Gruffold wasn't old enough.
