It's fascinating how both filmmakers use the comedy to help the audience relate to cold-blooded murderers, but the misadventures give a human touch to the characters in a big way.
The truck scene is all I remember from 'Frenzy'. But, good point.

BTW, have you read Ignatiy's essay (in the booklet)? Very good read!

I read it immediately after I watched the movie. I do this for all of my Criterion purchases. It really is a good read, but I was up late night that night, and I probably ought to go through it again with a fresh mind.

I just watched The Third Man for the first time (the Criterion Blu), and...

Wow. The best film I've watched in a long time. The Third Man takes place in post-war Vienna, Austria, where the city is divided up into allied zones: American, British, French, and Russian. The black market runs rampant due to supply shortages, crime is plentiful, and the city is still in ruins. What could be a more perfect setting for a film noir-eqsue tale of mystery and murder, where one of the main characters is night time shadowy silhouettes?

We follow the main character around, an American, as he investigates the death of his best friend, Harry Lime. Being brand new to the Vienna area, he encounters language barrier after language barrier, which makes for interesting conversation. My intentions here are not to spoil the plot, so I will cease to expound any further, but let me say this: while I was glued to my seat for the all parts of the film, Orson Welles' appearance really brought something special to the table here. My favorite scene takes place in a ferris wheel, and it's the most thrilling mix of mysteriousness and psychology.

Not that anyone cares but I took these pictures to show my cousin and I think I'll stick them here too. It's just shots of all of my Criterion BDs on my shelf after I finally put them in order. Oh, and yes I realize I have my Criterions and then right next to them is the start of my wrestling BDs. I'm all over the map with my tastes, lol...

Is Blow Out and/or Something Wild worth a blind buy? Really considering those from Barnes and Noble.

I think they're both great.

If you didn't know, Blow Out is a paranoid thriller and Something Wild is comedy/drama/thriller - it hits a lot of tropes.

Something Wild is the first Criterion I've bought that I am going to get rid of as I didn't really like it.

Blow Out on the other hand is one of my favourites.

Well, now that tropical storm Flossie has left my neighborhood I was able to finish up Two-Lane Blacktop. Huge upgrade from my old Anchor Bay dvd which wasn't bad for it's day. Always a great watch and sad at the same time since a lot of the actors died too young. Warren Oates was such a great asset to any film and this was one of his best performances. I'm sure if this had been a more popular film in it's day he would have been Oscar nominated.

More than a little disappointed to report that I just finished The Double Life of Veronique and I was... unmoved.

I understand that the film is purposely ambiguous, but I kept waiting for a moment or line or scene to grab me. Sadly, the film ended before anything did.

...Then again, I've read that many people pick up new appreciation for it after multiple viewings, so maybe I'll revisit it sometime in the future.

It's more of a cinematography movie.

So should I watch the Three Colors Trilogy before watching The Double Life of Veronique?

It honestly doesn't matter, as they aren't related at all.

I watched The Double Life of Veronique beforehand. It's still my preference to The Three Colors Trilogy, though.

Both are great watches, so don't hesitate to choose one over the other!

The PQ is excellent.

Don't hesitate to pick it up because it's a great looking film. Criterion did a superb job with the transfer.
