This. Regardless if fans didn't like the movie or not, it made money. That's the actual point. Something that can't be disputed. It would have also made severely less, in my opinion, if people were really that disappointed by it. You don't make almost $800 million if people don't like the movie.

Is "disappointed money" tax deductable? If so I've got to go back and redo some returns.

Although the chances of this having anything to do with JJ's Ep.VII it's still pretty awesome seeing that LucasArts actually canned a game called Star Wars Episode VII Shadows of the Sith.

Quote:
Star Wars: Episode 7 – Shadows of the Sith was in development at LucasArts before it closed, according to a new book on the history of LucasArts. The title was just one of 19 cancelled Star Wars games that were canned by the studio over the years.

This image shows logos for all 20 of the cancelled projects, and if interested you can buy the book over on Amazon now.

That actually sounds very interesting. Wonder if it would be passed off the same Lucas materials being used for the new movies. Also, I would have played the hell out of 'Star Wars: Darth Maul' and 'Star Wars: Han Solo'!

I think that is going to be the biggest problem here - we will all be happy to see the old characters again but the movie is going to have to be damn near perfect or else people won't like it. and I don't mean perfect like Citizen Kane perfect but I mean Star Wars perfect - a story that is good and told well, the characters acting like time has passed but not acting totally different than we remember, not an overuse of cgi, etc. but I don't think the director is up to that challange so I do think the anticipation of the new films will be better than the films themselves.

I do find it funny that Ford is willing to appear again after wanted to have Han killed off in Jedi. amazing what 30 years will do.

Sure you do.

Look at the dropoff from Matrix Reloaded to Matrix Revolutions. Look at the dropoff from The Phantom Menace to AOTC. Initial hype drives up numbers. Fans are gonna go at first but if the movie sucks, it will sometimes show on subsequent sequels.

My point is just because a movie makes a ton of money, it doesnt reflect the quality of it.

That's because they weren't doing anything worthwhile with the character. Look at what Han does in Jedi, virtually nothing accept run around shooting Imperials. They even hand off the Falcon going into the Deathstar to Lando.

Episode 7 will return the series to genuine character development like Empire. Disney ain't going to screw this up. As for Abrams, ditch the lens flares of check your house for fire insurance!

I dont really care for RT either....critics gave Iron Man 3 high praise and it sucked ass through a straw, just a monumental disappointment. Again, coming off the Avengers and coupled with Downeys star power, many fans (like me) happily plopped down $10 for IM3. You take away the "disappointed dollars" and IM3 makes way less than its real-world take IMO
Extremely well said. Making a ton of money doesnt make a movie good. It just means people had high expectations for it or they enjoyed previous installments of the franchise. Look at Avengers - it made trillions and is the biggest pile of crap Ive seen in a long time. IM 3 as well.... just a huge bust. Dark Knight Rises also sucked and made trillions.

You guys may have not liked them, but if word of mouth had been that toxic, it wouldn't have made that much. None of those films would have. Movies that have bad word of mouth won't climb that high. You guys are just trying to push "I don't like it, so it must not be good!" mentality here, when the fact remains, it made a lot of money, and people enjoyed it.

I don't like the 'Twilight' films, but they make a lot of money, and I know that people like them. I'm not going to pretend that they don't do well and people are wrong for liking them. Film is completely subjective, and you need to look at it that way. You can't just say "I don't like it, so I must be right".

There's nothing as hair raising as sitting in a dark cinema on opening day when...

"A long time ago in a galaxy far, far away...." and that Williams theme suddenly hits.

That's going to be amazing when the time comes in 2015, I've never seen a Star Wars film theatrically so it will be quite an experience.

Same for me, I've never seen a Star Wars film theatrically. Almost saw Episode III when I was 11, but my mom told me I had to choose between Star Wars and Batman Begins, so I went with the latter. Looking back though it was a good decision.

Hope Disney/Lucasfilm release this in IMAX 3D, but I'm pretty sure they will.

Forgive me if I sound stupid but what is Dolby Atmos?

It sounds like some kind of terraforming device you would see in an Alien film.
