thought this was worthy of its own thread so its known.
got this email today: Thank You for contacting Onkyo USA Product Support. At this current time we have updates for the DTS MA. The DTS MA update you have a choice to bring it into the service or you can do it yourself. Knowing that you have registered the unit you can go to the link below to download the zip folder and the instructions on how to perform the update. To locate a service center you would go to our website and go to Support and then to Dealer/Service locator to find a local service center. You would provide the service center a copy of the sales receipt so that the service center knows that the unit is under warranty. http://63.148.251.142/download/firmw...re_replace.cfm Thank you and we appreciate your patience, Jen UPDATE: the link is for those that has registered thier product. when you login with email address and serial, it tells you this is a one time thing. you cannot get back to the page again. ![]() IT ALSO TELLS YOU THAT IT IS PROHIBITED TO POST THE INSTRUCTIONS. thats B.S.! also, it seems that the 605 is not included. the zip file indicates 705,805,875,905,885 Quote:
makes sure its set to use the optical output for sound, tick only 44.1khz pcm. then in the music settings menu make sure "44.1khz/88.2khz/176.4khz" is selected and not the other option (48khz). make sure bitmapping is also off. Last edited by un4gvn94538; 09-07-2008 at 07:22 PM. |

Just out of curiosity (I don't have an Onkyo), how do you update firmware on a receiver? Do you have to buy some sort of connector or does it come with it? My Pioneer came with nothing that I know of that would facilitate a firmware update. I can't register to find out

That's a bit confusing, we have no update at this time, and then the next sentence goes on to say there is an update? Weird! What does this update do, optimize DTS-MA decoding issues? And is it applicable to the 605? Thanks. I am using the PS3 so I may not need it unless I switch to a stand alone someday.

The update, I'm assuming, fixes the decoding issue that produces a gunshot-like pop while listening to certain DTS-MA ('m tired of typing DTS-HDMA . . . from now on it's DTS-MA!) tracks. If you're using a PS3 it's an unnecessary update, but if you switch to a stand alone I'd do it. But I'd do it anyway, just because it'd make me feel better knowing my shit isn't "broken." |

Downloaded the update and burned it to a disc (I used Windows Media Player even though the instructions recommended not to, I couldn't figure out how to avoid that). My CD (DVD) player is hooked up via coax so I can't use it, does anyone know if I can use the Xbox 360 CD Player function to update my 605?

I know some kind of firmware update came out for 605, but it was supposedly older models. Mine came up as not needing the update when I checked the site.
It's BS sending it back to Onkyo, or bringing it to a dealer, they should have clear instructions on updating it, can't be that difficult. |

Just completed the update without issue. The longest part of the process was re-doing the set-up on the receiver since the update clears all user defined settings, including the Audyssey speaker config. In any case, the update was a success.
