Last edited by Caligula; 04-13-2008 at 03:38 PM. Reason: mod changed it " DTS-HD MA is great not as important as CC/subtitling for the hearing impaired! hence the joke |

Yeah, I liked your original better - stimulated more conversation. I feel a Disturbance in the force - as if a hundred and a half posts were suddenly silenced by a well-meaning moderator. [sarcasm](Hmm I wonder who?)[/sarcasm]
(EDIT: After all, it was the title that got the convo going in the first place) Last edited by doctorsteve; 04-13-2008 at 03:35 PM. Reason: Spellling... |

We have what WE wanted since the PS/3 was released (DTS-HD MA decoding). So, now we should all back the movement for improved CC.
BD-Live perhaps offers a major opportunity. Those organizations supporting the deaf could be recruited to do the various CCs needed (we are talking beyond American English, right?), and then make them available via BD-Live. This would be popular for a lot of people beyond the deaf, since this could introduce a lot more languages for those that don't understand English well. How long is needed to create a good CC for a film? Is it the same as the lead time given reviewers of discs? If so, then everything could easily fall in place for the release day. Gary |

I have noticed this. I am not sure why they are using the CC symbol since I am unable to enable it. Unless they are referring to the SDH, which they should use the proper term for.

This article may shed some light on the situation:

Subtitles and CC are often shortened for reading
The general rule for subbing is that someone should be able to read the subtitle twice before it goes off screen. I imagine the same goes for CC If you're not getting the closed captions, then you should be calling your TV manufacturer. If it's listed as having captions, they should be on them. All major studio titles should have them |

First off wow what a thread i just read alot of pages lol.Anyways im glad we're getting dts-hd ma.On another note sure we should definetely have cc so just write sony and keep talking it will come eventually.
Also was dts-hd needed?no was the ps3 needed?technically no its all just wants and needs and of course business. We demanded dts-hd and we got it keep demanding cc and im sure it will come. There prolly just getting the most demanded features out of the way first then the rest will come. Good luck and i hope we get it. |

I actually use SDH sometimes to find out lyrics of songs in movies. I personally wish every movie had this as I am sure it's better for people who are deaf/hard of hearing, or even just in my case where you want to know song lyrics. I also use it sometimes when the volume is really low at night when everyone is sleeping. I am not for, however, CC, at least I don't think I am. I am pretty sure it doesn't work over HDMI/Component and since that's all I ever use, there doesn't seem to be much of a point. Where as if they created a standard for EVERY disc to have SDH, then there wouldn't be a problem.
But to me, this doesn't really have much to do with the PS3 getting DTS-HD. This has more to do with the Blu-Ray association setting up a standard for each disc to have SDH. |
