*Taps into my inner Sherlock Holmes*

[Show spoiler]Loki is the mastermind and the dude with glasses is a patsy and Hugh kills him and goes to jail and Gyllenhal gets caught and he and Hugh sit in jail together which is where the title "Prisoners" comes into play

In a post credit scene Hugh goes full Wolverine on his ass

Default Extended TV Spot For Hugh Jackman Thriller 'Prisoners'

Quote:
In theaters September 20, here’s an extended 60-second TV spot for Prisoners, which will premiere at the Toronto International Film Festival..

“How far would you go to protect your child? Keller Dover (Hugh Jackman) is facing every parent’s worst nightmare. His six-year-old daughter, Anna, is missing, together with her young friend, Joy, and as minutes turn to hours, panic sets in. The only lead is a dilapidated RV that had earlier been parked on their street. Heading the investigation, Detective Loki (Jake Gyllenhaal) arrests its driver, Alex Jones (Paul Dano), but a lack of evidence forces the only suspect’s release. Knowing his child’s life is at stake, the frantic Dover decides he has no choice but to take matters into his own hands. The desperate father will do whatever it takes to find the girls, but in doing so, he may lose himself, begging the question: When do you cross the line between seeking justice and becoming a vigilante?”

Melissa Leo, Maria Bello, Viola Davis, Terrence Howard, and David Dastmalchian also star

I don't know about this movie. The trailer feels like it gives away quite a lot, especially because I feel like
[Show spoiler]the fact that we see Hugh Jackman's character taking Paul Dano's character hostage in his home is a pretty huge plot point... I'm not sure how they could continue on and have a bigger development than that. It feels like a distinct third-act climax.

But of course I could be wrong. I'm definitely interested in seeing it, and the music in the trailer is genuinely unnerving, and I mean that in the best way possible. It gives the impression that this will be a much darker film than the trailer makes it seem.

About
[Show spoiler]Jake Gyllenhaal's character being the villain, and his name being Loki and all that... I honestly feel the same way. I hope they don't go that route, though, since that would be just a little too easy to figure out, in my opinion. Having a character named Loki, though, could be the plan for a massive red herring!

Anyone suprised that Roger Deakins is the Director of Cinematography on this, it feels like a film that's a bit beneath him.

No. I mean he's done some great films, but he's done a lot of mediocre-to-awful ones, too.

Fair enough, I know he did In Time, but I mostly know his work from Coen films. And his film he usually takes up at least have him adding some flare to it, it's never something quite as bland as this.

I don't know. I'm really interested in this. Good director, good cast, it could really be something.

I hope the final product does look like it has Roger Deakins' stamp.

The trailer seems like it gives away every plot point though. I hope I'm wrong though, I'm interested in it as well.

Huge problem for a number of reasons.... a detective with large neck tattoos.

Are we supposed to accept, or ignore that? Like it has nothing to do with the "mystery"?

Fake, or obvious, or both. Lame either way.

Film could be really really good, but it does look a bit of a white wash thriller for someone as prestigious as Deakins to be involved. Especially since it seems to lack a lot of flare in the visual department.

Well that's September in a nutshell, all the crap that won't sell during Summer but so lame that Oscar baiting films seem more appealing to general audiences.

Other than those, nothing else looks very good. Hey, we need a down month before October, right?
