How do you know its working?

I am not sure which Onkyo I got last February (2007), but right now when I play any BRD in the PS3, it goes over the HDMI and my receiver shows Multi Channel

Is that cause all the audio is coming over PCm Bitstream?

If I download the update and get the DTS-HD, then will my receiver say "DTS-HD" when it plays a BRD that has it? Or will it still say "multichannel" cause of how the signal is coming over?

I guess my question is- How can I verify I am playing DTS-HD?

For all I know, my receiver may not even have it.

For everyone who keeps asking, if your receiver says "Multi-channel PCM 7.1" or 5.1, and when the movie is playing, you press select on the PS3 and it says "DTS HD MA 7.1" or 5.1, then you are getting lossless audio. Its that simple. If you are dying to see "DTS HD Master Audio" light up on your receiver, you will need to purchase a stand alone blu-ray player that bitstreams all the codecs. PS3 can never do that, it uses HDMI 1.3, not HDMI 1.3a which is needed for bitstreaming. PS3 can do deep color however.

Hope that helps.

Default 2.20

When I pull up the Playstation website it only shows the latest update as 2.20 not 2.30. What do I need to do?

Thanks

For the newbies who keep asking for info without doing any DIGGING/SEARCHING for info:

Regardless if you have the old HDMI receiver that can accept multichannel PCM or if you have the new HDMI receiver with DTS HDMA decoding, this is how the PS3 works with your receiver.

Set the BD audio output to Linear PCM. The PS3 will decode the DTS HDMA bitstream and output that as multichannel PCM. Your receiver will not show anything but "Multichannel Input" of either 5.1 or 7.1. This is how it works.

Anybody asking more about how to get DTS HDMA via the PS3 is getting the wooden paddle.

I pretty much exhausted my dts-HD and dts-MA movies already but I'm gonna get around to watching them all the way through again very soon thanks to this upgrade.

It took me a minute after I did the update, but that's what I figured as well. Good to have confirmation though.

This is a bit off subject, but I was wondering if I would get any faster transfers if I upgraded to an N router from my G one?

Ok thanks. I'm not dying or anything, but if I can speed it up for the price of a new router, why not.

Anyways, back on the subject of 2.30... anyone play around in the new PlayStation Store yet?

I assume not. I would think this is all about the dts upgrade for all of us.

That's cool. I just got a PS3 last Friday (instead of my old S300) so I never used the old one. I'll have to look into the whole PS Store thing.

its doesn't say its part of the update, just put in a blu that has dts hd, set the disc to play dts hd, then hit select while the movie is playing. That should do it.

From the XMB: Settings -> System Settings -> About Playstation 3. You'll see the DTS HDMA logo there. This update also supports DTS-HD High Resolution (lossy compression) decoding.
