I would assume since HD DVD is dead, that Blu-ray will soon be releasing all what u want. It just takes time

As long as I'm asking... how about a 400-disc Blu-ray changer at a
reasonable price? (like Sony's old 400-disc DVD changer that I bought
for a mere $249)

Or a portable Blu-ray player for the car. I still buy a Blu-ray movie, as
well as its DVD version, so I can use it in the car's a/v system....

sigh, all these things will eventually come out. remember, we are still in infancy.

that being said, i'd anticipate a large disc player to be out within the next year and a half. a portable i have no clue. you don't see a resolution upgrade there like you do on a big screen. i'd anticipate some form of managed copy will be used to create a DVD copy for portable devices. alas, this is still a while away
